How do you get past being robbed?

My home was broken into yesterday.Thankfully we have recovered almost everything ,some of our things were probably sold for drugs.The couple who did this were drug addicts.I have taken all the steps to protect our credit,but I am so shaken.I own a gun,but it was one of the items stolen and the police still have it.I do not feel safe in my own home thanks to these druggies.My question is to all those who have went through this-how long till you start feeling better?I feel so sick inside.Thanks and GOD-bless

We got our home broken into last year, so I know how you feel. Our door was kicked down on the side where the hinges are, and the locks were still intact! We had to replace the entire door frame cause it was splintered into pieces. They stole some electronics and money, but we were glad that no one was home when they broke in... otherwise, someone may have got hurt.

I know this sick feeling that you speak of all too well. It made me feel very violated and unsafe. We moved out that night and have been staying with my parents ever since. It not only harmed us financially, but it stole our sense of normalcy... and that was worth so much more.

We are trying to find another place, but when we do, I am making sure there is some sort of security system in place.

Each person heals differently. It took me a month or so before I accepted that life was going to be different for us. Things will get back to normal for you eventually, but that "feeling" that you speak of seems to fade with time. I pray the Lord bless you and keep you safe. God Bless.

My apartment was broken into around Christmas. After the break-in, I also got a childhood fear back- fear of the dark. I live alone, so I bought a dog. :)

It's almost May now, and I'm still not completely over it. I may never fully get over the fear of a break-in again, but my fear is slowly fading.

Liz first let me say I am so sorry for what has happened to you. If you live in the states, you need to call your court house and ask to speak to the person in charge of Victims Crimes and see what type of support they can offer. Also I hope you plan on pressing charges. So many people are afraid that the person that commits the crime pleads it down to next to nothing. Thank God you and your family were not at home.
