My late boyfriend had committed suicide about a year or so ago and I was just thinking about it a little lately. What stuck out to me was how his mother was told that it had happened. I already knew because of first hand experience so I didn't need to know. Anyhow talking to the detective I insisted that he didn't tell her of course. I asked how they did it and he said that someone goes to her house and tells her. I found out that someone just made a call to tell her. I'm not sure where I stand on that I mean I wouldn't want anyone around me when I find out so a call may have been better. I also wonder how they pick the person to tell someone that. That would just be an awful job. Was that insensitive for them to do maybe not showing enough respect to go to her door?

I'm so sorry for your loss. My best friend committed suicide and I saw it on the news...i was in shock n called n her brother just said, 'um, shes dead.'
Its not so much how you are told, its the actual fact that hurts...sometimes ppl are told over the phone n i think its impossible to tell everyone face to to face. My sister had to leave a message on my answering machine, she said, 'i'm sorry to leave this on your machine, but mom just died...'then her sobbing, n she hung up. I was all alone n i fell down screaming for 5 minutes. Its not that it was left as a message that crushed me, it was the fact my mom was dead.
I'm sure its different being told by law the police on the phone, but i think law enforcement are a bit hardened...i think they have to be to do their job. But I'm sure his mom is more crushed by her loss, not by how she was told.

people die everyday. thats how life goes. there is just simply not enough time, to try and be everyones best friend, just so they can break the news. ma'am im sorry, your son is dead. is a hard thing to say. no matter what you say, you will be blamed for it somehow. from you are disrepectful, to you let him die. no matter how you slice it. death is death. its not easy for anyone. as far as the police dept, they have a hard job, as do i in the military. im not going to gossip or bash anyone, for calling rather then driving to the house. |
