How long can a man be in jail for non-payment of child support?

I was just wondering about the length of stay in jail for non-payment of child support.I am asking for someone else.

I am talking about the us,not australia! No, I am not asking for myself! I am a woman,not a man! Did anyone ever realize that there are men out there who pay child support,but some women are so greedy and want money for themselves! Especially if they admit it! For example,I am going to buy a brand new car for myself,I don't really need your money,or I have another man to take care of me,but that is what you get for leaving me! Did it ever occur to anyone that women can be evil,vicious,and downright spiteful? a man should not have to spend his whole paycheck for support! He should definitely pay,yes!!! But not be railroaded or blackmailed to get back together with his ex! My boyfriend is a good man and provider,but his ex -girlfriend is angry that he broke up with her!

Thats a good question. Here in CA they essentially make it so that if you have a job where your not being paid under the table, your paying the ****. I also know that here if you get to where you owe $2500 or more your drivers license is toast. But this sure would be good to know.

BTW how do you people know that this is the payer and not the payee? Quit answering with "just pay it" cuz I want a REAL answer too.

Hard to say. He can be in there for as long as it takes to cough up the whole amount owed. And since he's in jail, he may not be able to cough it up until he gets out, so they say, anyway. Technically, that means he could be in there the rest of his life. Interesting, though, how fast they come up with the money when they find themselves in jail.

absolutely not long enough! i agree totally with him^ having a child gives you responsibilities and as a mother who gets no child support for 2 children it is of course my opinion.. the only better punishment other than child support is rotting in jail for not paying .....Parents take care of your children and never take them for granted.

up to a year in AL, but I want to know how we are suppose to live in the most free country in the world, and we have murders and child molestars still roaming around society free as a bird, and we are having our tax dollars waisted on housing people that shouldn't even be in jail. Every stop to think that if that had the money they wouldn't get so far behind in the first place.

i dont think no man or woman should go to jail just cause they didnt pay chjld support . its not like they not they dont wont to pay its just hard to get a job and slapping a warrant on thier record is only going to make it hard for them to get ajob .havin that hanging over there head is not makin things easy for them
