Considering it's illegal for a felon to own or possess a gun, coupled with animal cruelty and the obvious habit of acting irresponsibly and inappropriately... potentially years. |

In many juridictions animal cruelty can be a felony all by itself.
Many times, offenders will get off with fines and probations, but if you have a previous felony, especially one for a violent act, it will certainly increase the chance for jail time.
I believe in California the maximum penalty for animal cruelty is two years...but I'd think you'd have to be Michael Vick to get that. |

If you have a felony conviction, you can not possess a gun, so you have an illegal possession charge.
Depending on the situation, if shooting the dog was to put it down because of an illness or injury, you MAY have that right depending on which state you are in.
Again, depending on which state, you may be charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Well, if the Animal Rights people hear of this horrendous crime against an innocent animal, you will never get out. I hope there was some logical reason for you to shoot this dog. Did the dog attack you? Was it about to go into a rage from Rabies? Why did you hurt the animal? |
