How long do police search for someone who is in danger to themselves?

If someone is in danger to themselves and need to go to a psychiatric hospital voluntarily otherwise police will escort them, and they say they will go but don't show up... how long will police search for them and after how much time is it deemed that they're not in danger and can't be found etc.

Do they trace cellphones to find the person?

They don't look for them at all. They're too busy writing traffic tickets to the working poor while ignoring the crack dealers on every corner.
