For the rest of your life.

Some convictions become "spent" and do not have to be declared. Check them out here.

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 it depends what your sentence was ...basically if you were sentenced to two and half years or more imprisonment, then it will always appear on your record. This is even if you get time off for good behaviour.

The record is set by sentence and not offence, though any offences involving children or other vulnerable groups will remain as will any offences involving serious financial issues ie fraud and money laundering.

You may benefit having a peek at the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act on Google

They stay forever. You could get a conviction but never do any time and it will still appear. Whats worse than that is even if you got it wiped off your record it would still be there. They can't remove it but with you getting it wiped off that just means you don't have to disclose it to anyone who is wanting to pull your background. When someone pulls a background check, the background check looks at everything you have done since you were born. Even stuff you did when you were a minor will show up. Everything from a parking ticket, to a class Y felony. It's all there. What I mean by Disclose is you don't have to tell what you were convicted of. It would just simply say you were convicted of X felony on such and such date. I think the whole thing is bull$hit because I feel if you did your time and were already punished why does it get to haunt you forever. Seriously, who is really the same person they were 10 years ago. Just take it in stride and do the best with what you got. You can't change it, just be glad you are free. Some people are sitting in jail right now just wishing they could walk the streets and would probably do it with a huge sign attached to them letting everyone know they are convicts. GOOD Luck!

I believe the record of a convicted criminal remains for life. It may be that all or part of a record is removed after 20 or more years. You can check this out at your local police station or ask someone at your Citizens Advice Bureau [CAB].

Depends how long you were inside for. If its less than 3 years, I think them it's 10 years, anything over that and it's for life

There will always be a record of it but it will eventually become classed as spent. this means you would not have to reveal it so it should not have a negative impact upon you forever but if you commit the same crime then it will be tied to the later charge as a previous conviction for a similar offence.

A conviction remains on your record forever. The Criminal Records bureau have an excellent website.
