How long does police look for someone who is deemed suicidal?

His nurse psych deemed him suicidal even though he told her he is not in immident danger and has felt fine for a while now. Basically she just thinks a hospital will better know how to treat him.

She told him to voluntarily go and if she checks and he is not there she will call the police. How long will police look for him? Where will they look? Are they allowed to enter his home without him answering and without his permission? Please provide as much info as you can.

They will continue to look until he is located. How much time and resources they spend will depend on what else they have going on at the time.

If they have reason to believe he is a harm to himself, and have reason to believe he is in his home, they can enter. This would be an exception to the requirement for a warrant, because the purpose is outside the scope of criminal purpose, they are doing it for his own welfare.
