I got a ticket in the last week of January and my citation date was by the last week of March. When I showed up to court to get the hearing date they told me the police officer made a mistake in the ticket and they sent it back to the agency (Sheriff) by the second week of February. Finally they asked me to go back 2 to 3 weeks later. When I did so there was still no record of it and again they asked me to go back in 2 or 3 weeks, that's going to be next week. What should I do now? Do traffic tickets have something like an expiration date? What if the ticket was lost? I still need to show up to court every 2 or 3 weeks? It is a sort of 'parole'!!!

First of all- THANK all of you who are helping me!!!
The thing is that I never saw the judge, I just can get to the front desk, where they give you a date to see the judge (It's the way this court works). However, they stamp the ticket (with date and time) and write the reason why a hearing wasn't given (returned to agency first, no record on the second time).

Look at it this way, if you don't show up it goes straight on your license for a couple years. Here's the thing, by losing it, they're building a good case for you. When you come in the next time, if they don't have it, request that the case against you be thrown out because the office or agency handling it has dragged their feet and apparently lost the ticket. More than likely the judge will agree. Just be polite about it. |

I assure you the idiot claiming the cop wrote down the wrong color of his car so the ticket was changed is making it up. That would never happen in a million years. A mistake or typo doesn't change your ticket. You'll probably still be charged with teh offense, their mistakes aren't going to change anything. Hassle for you for sure, but it doesn't change anything.
PS - and John above me is NOt a cop, he's passing off bad guesses as answers. |

I had a speeding ticket turned into a non moving traffic violation because the officer wrote down the wrong color of my car. It has saved me hundreds, maybe thousands in insurance. It is worth looking into if you can get it thrown out. |
