How many of you who agree with bringing back capital punishment in the Uk, would take the job of executioner?

It is a bit like saying who would eat meat if they had to kill the animal themselves.

I think most people would like to see capital punishment return, I however would not like the job as exectioner.

life for life is hypocracy in terms, a paradox.

To a murderer, a maximum sentance of 8 years (4 on 'good' behaviour), is nothing to serve, to eliminate their perceived enemy. I Wonder if they would feel the same of life imprisonment meant till they died of old age, with no visitors or privaleges?

In the US, we execute people all the time, guilty or innocent. If you happen to be a person of colour, or poor, or uneducated, you're far more likely to receive a death sentence than if you're a rich white person with the ability to hire a fancy lawyer. The advent of DNA evidence is just now beginning to free innocent people who have been sitting on death row for many years.

Two-thirds of the world's countries have abolished capital punishment.

So, if you want to take the job of executioner, you would be entering an obsolete field, with no good prospects for future career growth.

And, once you "pull the switch" on somebody, how will you know for sure whether that person was truly guilty or not?

Please don't bring yourself down to the level of the US and the 63 other countries who continue to practice the government-sanctioned practice of murdering their own citizens.

The job of Executioner in the UK entailed taking height and weight measurements, setting up and testing the chains, shackles, rope and traps and calculating the precise distance the criminal would fall when the lever was thrown and the traps released.

The criminal would have a blow the force of 1000lbs delivered to his neck, breaking it at the third cerebral cortex and shattering the upper portion of the spine.

Death was instantaneous and there has been no other faster way of dispatching a criminal since. The average execution took less than forty seconds to carry out.

Capital Punishment is of course, state sanctioned revenge - not a deterrent to future murder, but emotionally speaking, I'd have no problem with people like Ian Huntley being judicially executed.

However, Timothy John Evans and many more like him were executed even though they were innocent. We did not have an infallible justice system when we had execution and we still don't. DNA evidence isn't the miracle it's made out to be - it can be falsified if necessary. Innocent people would die just as innocent people are in prison.

Lastly, no I would not like to carry out executions. It is far easier to react by saying you would do so on an emotional level - but to prepare someones death and then look them in the eye as you pulled a white hood and noose over their head and push a lever that killed them (or whatever form execution would take) is beyond my ability or ambition.

I agree that some people don't derserve the right to live, but it is far better to make sure they don't live in the kind of luxury that makes us all angry or make sure they get the kind of sentences that make us feel we are protected by the law.

No, it` wrong.
How would you feel if all the evidence pointed to your Father having murdered someone and he was executed.
Only later they found that he was NOT responsible for the murder.
Dead is dead!

But I do think that a Life Sentence should be just that LIFE!
Then if any other evidence etc were to appear later, the case could be looked into and if needed the release of the innocent.
DNA is not 100% foolproof.

Yep I wouldn't have a problem with that.....Especially child abusers / murderers I would actually pay the legal system to do it !!!!!

If it was proven beyond all doubt I would happily take this job, especially the likes of Ian Huntley and Brady, after all they are a drain on taxes and our prisons are over stretched as it is.

So long as they had been pr oven guilty without any doubt what so ever yess the death penalty should be brought back into this country's outdated and diluted system of unfair justice.................... "AN EYE FOR AN EYE"...........

i do think that in the cases of paedophiles and murders that capital punishment should be reintroduced.

Depends what the pay is, but seriously prison is no deterrent for crimes such as murder. Life should mean life and not in a holiday camp atmosphere as it is at present.

I live in America, and they execute prisoners in my state pretty often. I think we have the third highest execution rate in the country. If they paid me well I would be the executioner. If that was my one duty to get up at 11 at night and go execute some dude at 12 am, and then go home. That I could do.

I'd prob be ashamed of my self, but money is money. And it's a government job.

I would. if it can be proved 100%with DNA that someone is guilty then I would have no problem with carrying out the job....

Capital Punishment should be re-introduced for certain crimes.

Murder with firearms, Double murder, Murder of a Police or Prison Officer, Crimes against the State. - These should all carry the Death Penalty.

Other crimes should also be considered, - Serious Crimes against children and the elderly, Drug Dealers (The Mr. Bigs)

I'm sure if one had more time, I could think of more offences that should be considered as hanging offences.

I do not live in UK, however, I say bring it back and let me bounce across the pond as the executioner... Strap them down to the electric chair and I would flip the switch off and on repeatedly like the man does in the Nationwide ad Stateside.
