I respect them but you have to note they usually arrive after the crime was committed. |

I do. I think most people who are European-American & middle-class to upper-class in America, trust the police. Why would they not? |

I have had some very bad experiences with the police and justice system as well and I was the victim too. I think that the person that you can trust is Jesus, and I have found this system to work the best... |

gotta luv me!

Over all I don't trust anybody but my hubby. And I mean anybody. Most people are just looking out for number one, police included. Is it just a coincidence that you see more officers out and pulling people over near the end of the month, can we say "quota to meet"? |

I don't!!!
Anyone can be a cop, doesn't matter what kind of morals you have. I wouln't trust a cop unless I knew him personally.
I do have a friend who is a cop (city). I have 2 ex boyfriends who are cops (sheriff and town), one does terrible things, the other is ok. My grandfather was a cop (state), my step brother a cop (county) and I have another friend who is a state cop, I love him, but he does terrible things as a cop. Being a cop has changed him into a not so nice person.
I am not saying all cops are bad, but MOST are. Most don't go into police work to protect, most have an agenda from the beginning. Besides they don't make much money but yet you see all of them living in nice houses, driving new cars, tell me how this is possible if they are straight? Local county cops here make a little under 20 grand a year, city cops start at 15 a year. Yet they all live well.
I do not respect them, I respect individuals, respect is something that is earned.
I wouldn't trust my life or anyone I cared about to a cop!
I am going to tell you this: I was going to be a cop. When I was 18 I was an MP in the Army and after seeing what I saw and what goes on in training, NO WAY!! Police acadamies are worse than the military police!! |

Being a cop is just like any other profession. There are a few bad apples in every bunch. Because the press pounces on every opportunity to publicize the bad apples it give the rest a bad reputation. It appears that most of the people who replied to this question have very little real time information to us in answering.
I have found over the years that most people who don't like cops are people who have been arrested by them. I think the average everyday American Joe Citizen likes and respects police officers. People who aren't doing anything wrong have nothing to fear from the police. On the other hand if you don't like police because you're afraid they cut your income by jamming you up for selling a bunch of weed your wrong. We actually like the fact that you fear us because your a criminal.
Like them or not they'll still be out there protecting you every day and every night of the year. |

I think of police as a necessary evil, that is to say that there are occasions where their presents is needed, but I could do without them. There are a few (very few) who happen to be good guys, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I ever said that I thought of one as a friend. To me they all always have a hidden agenda. I was once told by not one but two cops that I'd known for awhile and had begun to think highly of that a cop has only one true family which is other cops because no one else in society could be in or take a cop's place. That plus having witnessed many of them do more unlawful things than most of us set my sense of admiration for them into "Nodda"... |

I dont, not at all, and I have at least 8 stories as to why.
when I was rapped he got away with it because he was a cop's son.
when my house was robbed the officer asked me to take a polygraph fearing I was not being very honest? I passed, theif never cought.
my list goes on .... |

I'm sorry. I don't feel "safe" when they are around, there is something wrong with that.
I think its because the laws they enforce are sometimes unjust.
old fuzz:
I know 3 cops, nice guys. The one cop I know quit because he was disgusted by the actions of his fellow officers. For the other two.. They break laws all the time when they are off duty. No, I would not feel safe around either if they pulled me over and i didn't personally know them.
Also.. looks like he rated everyone down.. how do you guys feel about that? |

I do respect and trust them. I really don't think it is fair for some to characterize an entire group of people or a profession based off one department or one person. I can see where someone may not trust an officer based on bad experiences but I think it may be drastic to say a person doesn't trust any officer. |

i havent had really any bad run ins. its friends of mine that have. but like here in chicago in one week - a 6year old and an 11 year old were killed by cops. in austin, texas where i used to live - it seems to be a dily thing too. i know once this guy was falsy accused of a drive by and they shot him in the head.
i dont trust them cause theyre way to quick to pull their gun instead of a tazer. also they have too much authority so the feel they can do everything. speed, run red lights, drink and drive ( i had a friend get on a head on collision with a cop that was drunk and driving)... also i saw a man on crutches in the middle of a mardi gras downtown austin get beat down by three cops... that night i saw a few girls get beat.. i have seen a man get dragged by the collar by a cop on a horse!! mt two best friends were beaten down at the age of 16 by cops (rip ian)...
ive seen to much crap that cops pull LIVE to give them my slightest bit of trust.
do i respect cops? F#$K NO!!!!!!!!!!!
-------------------------
p.s. old fuzz
i know three cops personally and i wouldnt say they are respectful nor trustworthy. 2 are alcoholic druggies and one laughs at his job and says he gets away with anything...
what are the cops doing in your town? most likely the same. |

I respect them. But I don't trust them. Why? Because I get the feeling that they themselves are the cause of some problems in the society.
For example, they order bad people to do bad things like stealing. So, the bad people they ordered get in jail. However, since they are the ones who ordered the bad thing to be done, they set them free/release them in their own unique ways. |
