How much do you respect the Police?

How much do you respect the Police?

My respect for the Police used to be total. However over the last few years my mother, my wife, myself and now my son have been the victims of crime, but this one really annoys me.

My 11 year old son was mugged for his mobile 'phone.

When reported to the Police that this had happend and that the perpitrater was still walking the street, they did not respond. They visited my son 48 hours later.

A witness identified the person that took the phone and he was arrested.

He was released after saying that it wasn't him and that he was somewhere else at the time.

The Police were obliged to give this thug the name of my son as his accuser!

This sh*t has been arrested 14 times and the best the Police could offer has the hope that one day one of his victimes will retaliate!

They didn't ask the the network provider to trace the phone. Apparently they only use this in an important case. They gave an example of 1 £35,000 car that was taken a week earlier.

I totally understand that the Police have a lot to do, but to use that as an excuse for poor response is wrong. This bad kid is stealing phones now. Next year he will have progressed to cars and maybe in the future it will be armed robbery. When do the Police try to stop this? On one occasion I photographed vandels kicking down my mothers fence, and you've guessed, they did nothing about that either. These crimes aren't happening in an inner city, but rural Buckinghamshire and Cheshire!

I respect some coppers, the good ones, the bad coppers need to finally be put in jail in gen. pop since that's where most criminals go.

Respect is not a "given" in my eyes,it is earned.

not much they dont seem to bother until someone is killed,
i was pulled over the other day for having my hazard lights on when i drove away while they are doing this to me there is a murderer and rapist on the loose in my area!!!!

I have respect for those who show me respect.

Here, it's even worse, our police deserve no respect, they are lazy and also break the rules, we have a police officer that was transfered here after molesting a child, and also one who turns on his sirens to be able to run through stop signs. I am a firefighter EMT and have no respect for them, in my experiences they should be replaced, quickly. When i was younger i had respect for them as my grandfather was a cop, but now i'm not too sure. I was pulled over for being suspicious after accidently hitting a curb while doing a U turn, while there was a gas station being robbed right down the street! He got a call on his radio and proceeded to ask me if i was intoxicated, and i was not. i think these cops need more schooling and to get their act together. It's horrible!!

Yes,I used to have total respect for the police too but, that has been whittled away to a thin veneer over the years. There is a certain type of person that joins the police force, just as there is for medical workers.I now believe that those who join the police force, are those who want to dominate others and have a lust for power that is always backed up by the rest of the force.

Very hard to have much respect for the way police handled your situation(s). Wager that if it were the police officer's 11 year old child that was mugged for his mobile phone that the situation would have been handled differently. Isn't there a higher authority than the local constabulary that you could take further proceedings ? Your local MP perhaps ?

As much as they respect the people that they are supposed to protect, therefore I am contemptuous of the police !

I'm sorry for your fammily. Police do the best jobs just when it's a important case, but seems like in the 'last days' a crime is not a important case, but isn't that.
So police won't do their job completely everytime.
I'm from Romania and here it's worst, some murderers are hand to hand with police, and they never go to prison.
Here if you die in a car crash, police say: It's the dead fault, and the driver pay some money to lawyers and to police, and he escapes with 'lite payament'.
So in general police don't do their job for justice, they do only for money!

i trust the police about as much as i trust the government. (not at all) i had my car stolen once, with a full set of drums inside it. two policemen saw the car being driven by three thugs. they turned and went after them. when they got there the three had got out of the car and were casually standing there waiting. when the cops arrived they said they were just looking at the car. they got away with it. my drums!! i tracked down my self through warning all the music shops to look out for them. eventually a shop phoned me and said the thieves were bringing the kit in to sell it. i informed the police of the time it would be brought into the shop. full description of the kit etc.....they couldn't even get that! right. they ballsed up the whole thing (and guess what!!) they all walked free. the police in this country are a f@cking sic excuse for a traffic! warden, let alone a policemen.

m_a_relucio
if you would ask me, i definitely do not trust the police, especially here in the Philippines, i love my country and i love my nation but i hate the police because, their duty is to serve and protect but the one's they protecting is the bad guys. (drug lords and pushers, thief and robbers, kidnappers and extortionist)

the main reason why the police protect these kind of people is that this is where they get their extra income.

ouch...i do respect the way that police are supposed to help victims...what i dont respect is the cop himself/herself...
it all basically comes down to how they think, their personality, and i think those cops are lazy.
i dont understand, i mean, if i were you, i'd file a report about that....
thats just dumb...a WHOLE police force not helping a citizen.....

Well I don't get it, anyone who receives calls from your sons phone is liable to tell the police who was on the line or they are accessories to the crime or withholding information.
It should be a snap to find out who stole it.

sound like the criminal justice system failing to protect the public. Sounds like they are there to protect the guilty.

Jazz
wow I wouldn't trust them either.
sounds like bad police work and getting shited on by the system that suppose to protect us.
thats why allot of people let that kind of thing go, it's life.
Sorry about you're bad luck!
I wish someone could do something for you!

I respect the police. I don't respect the government system or politics which stop the police from doing their jobs though. Fair enough the guy should have been charged with theft but at the same time the government has put up so much red tape that it's impossible to do. We live in an innocent till proven guilty society and the government is making it more and more difficult to prove someone guilty. I wouldn't say that is the polices fault but more the do gooder society that we live in.

you are absolutely correct.it isn't untill you become a victim of crime that you realise how bad they are.i could give you so many examples i know of it would take me all day

Dont get Infected
The Police i have full respect to most of them. some of them i dont. i know a few officers that are good at their job and never want to see someone go free unless they know that they didnt commit the crime. but the Justice system we have is alittle messed up. i understand putting a innocent man in jail or prison is a horrible thing but our justice system would rather see hundreds of guilty men and women go free then send 1 innocent men to jail/prison. and yet there are still some innocent people going to jail/prison. i also think that we are alittle too relaxed when it comes to the laws on stolen vehicles. in washington state you can be caught in a stolen vehicle 7 times before being charged with something.

I think police officers vary. You can't just lump them all together. Sure there will be some lazy/foolish/mean ones, but there are some that are really hard-working and really try to make society a better place. I have a great amount of respect for them.

with all the killers and rapist running the street..i hope they didnt waste alot of manpower chasing after a kids cell phone. This is the real world...and they have to prioritize things..if that same son was kidnapped or hurt..would you be happy if his case was pushed to the side becuase some other kid got his cell phone stolen?

Reg , usually I wouldn't condone vigilante tactics, but if this had happened to me or mine, I would employ a fixer to pull this young offender to one side and i would break his fingers with a ball hammer, he and his oppo's wont be quite so keen to rob another 11 year old in a hurry, don't blame Mr plod for his shortcomings, most are forced upon him by his political superiors, bon chance Mon Ami
