How much jail time can you get if you steals someones name?

Penal code describes the punishment as follows:

1.According to the familiarity of the name you have stolen.
2.How much you earned by the identified theft of name
3. How far you are using the name!
4. What is the motto for using the name?
5. How much the original company lose by this criminal?
6. How the people are cheated by using this theft name?
7. what is the value of the property earned by using this name?
8. who are involved in this crime?
9. Is it spoiled the ethic of the company?
10. How it affected the business of the original firm?
11. Is there any major lose of lives?

By all of the above IPC Acts you can be filed case and charge sheeted for the crime and according to CrPC minimum three years and maximum seven years imprisonment and according to the seriousness you may be sentenced to life imprisonment also.

That is identity theft. You're looking at some serious time. How long I don't know. But I wouldn't get caught doing it. I believe that is a federal crime.

first off...If you are seriously considering this or you have done this...I have absolutely no respect for people like that. That is identity theft and it should be taken way more serious then it is. I don't know exactly how much time you would get for that....but I can tell you this..its not enough.

Pretty sure that goes under identity theft as well as forgery. So you'd be looking at a federal crime.

You would be stealing someones identity, and you will have a separate charge for everything you do with that information.

That is an ignorant thing to think about doing.

Don't do it, or you will surely pay the price.

Depends on what you intend to use it for.

If you just say "Hi, i'm Mike Michaelson!" and your Frank Frankson, then that's just lying.

But if you say "Hi, I'm Mike Michaelson and i'm a police officer!" then you're impersonating a law enforcement officer.

If you use the name for any time of fraud or illegal activity it's considered identity theft and you could face between 5 to 30 years in jail based on prosecution.

Frankly, I'd just stick with the name you got or legally change it.

Its depends on the criminal offences you carried out using someone eles's name. Its identity theft and usually the reason people do it is in order to commit fraud.
