How old do you have to be to get a shotgun license in the UK?

I thought it was 18 but i also heard it was 16 and im not sure.

One has to license a shotgun in the UK? What is wrong with those people?

Anyway, I just checked out the Metropolitan Police Dept website, and it looks like one can obtain a shotgun certificate at age 16, but may have some problems purchasing a shotgun or ammunition prior to turning 17.
