There's usually a Public Relations officer (still a regular officer). Call your local PD & ask for that person. Leave message that you'd like time for 15 min. interview (at most) for a school project. Only have about 3 questions. Make 1st & last Q.'s good cop's life questions, then throw in the one you need in middle.
Be respectful of the time. Keep looking at your watch to let know you want to get in all questions B4 taking up more time than nessassary |

maybe u should try to get an interview with a higher ranking officer in the police dept. like a captain or major. they may have more time on their hands. but dont call 911. if u do u could be in big trouble. |

You will have little chance doing this by phone. Except for official community relations types no one will give an off the record opinion by phone. Can't think of any department that would want to formulate an on the record response, gives the movement legitimacy.
So always ask for media relations or community relations when calling a far off department.
Locally contact the desk sergeant or watch commander during the day at a nearby station. tell them what you are doing and ask if it would be OK to come down an seek a volunteer, maybe themselves, fro an interview.
We did it all the time for students, If an officer volunteered they got the interview, no volunteers no interview.
A sheriff or elected constable, who is often more politician than cop, may talk about it more than real police.
I've been retired for awhile but we had a number of stop snitching actions happen in the past, T-Shirts and graffiti mostly, one urban radio talk show host locally. No rallies or top twenty songs as is current.
Did not really make a difference in the long run. It all boils down to mutual trust between individuals and what's in it for me cases. That is why real proactive police engage all types of people in conversation whenever they can. |
