Ok. So running away is illegal, but to become emancipate you must be living on your own. Can someone explain this to me?
Also, my state doesn't have a statute for emancipation. How can I leave? I live in Iowa.

Standard emancipation requires you to hire an attorney. You must prove to a judge that you have a job so you can support yourself and a place (on your own) to live. Most States require parental consent also. What many do not realize is that emancipation does not change any other laws. You still could not work in a factory until 18. Being emancipated does not mean you are an adult. |

Everything the first poster said, but also, emancipation is a long, drawn out, expensive process. You have to have good reason such as abuse in the home to be emancipated, and have no other alternatives, such as foster care. A judge isn't going to give you an emancipation just because you don't like your parents' rules. |
