Go to the police station, ask to see a senior officer, give him the complaint. The person issuing the threat of a hit,is guilty of making threats and menaces and provided the evidence against themselves.Next step is the newspapers, but, police work has been very badly damaged by the politically correct brigade as well as the do gooders, along with weak goverment they have reduced the police to something the kids can laugh at.You reap what you sow. |

First of all, you should NEVER depend on the police to do anything! Go get a restraining order asap. and GO to the police station yourself to get them straight on the issue, if they dont do anything about it, hire a Body Guard or Private Investigator to see if the guy is really a threat. In this world, you cant really depend on government institutions to do jack ****. So you should handle this situation yourself. |

Cops out my way are exactly the same. I had made series of complaints about a house next door always yelling and screaming and playing loud music and very obvious they were on drugs. I called the police practically every friday night hence when the noise occoured. They always said that they will get a car to go down and someone to talk to them. I watched the window for a good hour or 2 and still no one came. This happened for about a month. I ended up going down to the station myself and asking a cop to come back with me!!
In your situation i suggest that you go down there personally and ask to speak to who is in charge. Tell them your situation and that they keep saying they will arrest the man or even talk to him and they haven't, write down all of their names and rankings and tell them that you have all of their details and that you will be contacting the head department of the police force and letting them know that for some time now that the police station has brushed you aside as if its not a serious matter.
thats all i can think off... hope it helps!! |

Contact your local radio stations, newspapers and TV stations and ask to speak with one of their reporters and tell him or her about the threatening phone call and the lack of response on the part of the police. I DO NOT blame you for being concerned. In today's world threats like this CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT be taken lightly. |

you have made a complaint the police have/or investigated the complaint, if they have not arrested anyone it is simply because they do not have enough evidence. just because you say someone is going to kill you you dont think the police will rush round to the house and arrest him do you they require further evidence the police cannot arrest any body without solid evidence you have not got a complaint to the authority.
IF YOU PROVIDE PROOF TO THE POLICE APART FROM YOURSELF I HAVE NO DOUBT THEY WILL ARREST IMMEDIATELY UNTIL THEN YOU HAVE NOT GOT A HOPE
You have not got a next step you have done as much as you can until further evidence is forthcoming you are in limbo,
unless you can point the police in the right direction with further evidence
I CANNOT BELIEVE THE DRIVEL ABOUT POLICE INCOMPETENCE THERE IS NONE
simply put I telephone you up and I say I am going to pay someone to kill you and I then put the phone down lets assume you know my name and address. what proof have you got for the police none whatsoever it is just your word against mine and until the police can get further proof there is not a thing they can do about it. if this was in fact the case ppl would just phone the police and say my next door neighbour as just robbed a bank come and arrest him they cannot do so because they require proof so where is the incompetence
there is none. they have took a statement and recorded the event and more than likely have spoken to the person involved but what else can they do if the person involved denies all knowledge off the conversation. the file will be marked NFA no further action honestly you have all got to see this no other action is possible, until any further evidence comes to light |

sounds like you need a restraining order against this guy, cops never do anything but having the dude appear in court will probably scare him a little |

After reading the answers in here, I think you need answers from a real cop. Like me.
Here's the deal: the original report got sent to the detective bureau. The detectives did or will soon follow up on it. They will send the case to the district attorney who will decide if he even wants to file it. In my experience, your case isn't enough to get a filing from the DA. I doubt very seriously that the DA would bring up charges against your suspect.
So, go to the station, provide your report number and ask to speak to the detective in charge of your case so that you can be updated. Go during business hours because that's when detectives are working.
When you go, be nice and polite. If you use the words "Gimme your badge number" or "I pay your taxes" you will be ignored and blown off. If you are courteous, you will get helpful service. If the officer or desk clerk isn't being helpful, ask (politely) to speak with the watch commander. If the WC isn't helpful, write a letter to the city council.
Above all, mentally prepare yourself for the fact that you probably will not get what you want from the legal process. You do not have a strong case and you are not going to see anything substantial done, even if they do arrest him. If they do, the DA will offer him a plea deal and he'll be out in two days with probation only.
My advice? Buy a gun. |

Being that you made the story short there are some important details that you omitted like why would this individual want to have you killed? Have there been other threats against you? You said that it wasn’t an anonymous threat but how did you positively identify the individual? Did you recognize his voice? Did his phone number appear on your caller I.D.? Did he make the statements on an answering machine or voice mail? An important part of the threatening statutes is that when you spoke to the police that you relayed to them that you feared for your safety and that you believe that this individual has the means to accomplish his threat.
Several issues can come into play here. First, you’re not just dealing with the police in this matter but also the court system. Before a judge will sign a warrant the officer has to be able to substantiate your complaint in some way to build his probable cause for an arrest which includes interviewing the other party. He then has to type up the warrant which may take a couple of days. The warrant is then sent to court where it is reviewed by the prosecutors and then goes before a judge. This process can take days or up to week or two, depending on how busy the court is. If after being reviewed by the prosecutors the warrant is sent back to the police department for revision this can add up to a week to this process. Once the warrant is signed by a judge iit then has to be entered into NCIC by the police agency that applied for it and if the police department is as busy as they claim they may not be aggressively trying to serve this warrant and the warrant my just be sitting there in a file cabinet.
What I’m saying is that although a month may seem like an unreasonable amount of time to obtain a warrant it really isn’t.
What you can do is contact the court (Prosecutor’s office) and ask what the status is on the warrant. You can also obtain a restraining order against the individual by going to the court and requesting one. This will take a little bit of time because you have to write up your complaint and then the person has to be served by sheriff a copy of the order. |

Usually you can contact their warrant enforcement office. And ask to talk to the detective or investigator that has the case.
If they don't know what that is you might be able to contact the county prosecutors office, but at that point if the police wont do anything they wont either. |

You have my sympathy. Police made a shambles of an investigation and I made a complaint. Professional Standards Dept. sent file to Police Station where Officers were based, "in error". Threatened Chief Constable with a Writ for damages, awaiting outcome, But don't hold out much hope. |

In the UK.
you give far too little details to be able to answer how you would like, but I will try to cover a number of points.
I do not intend to minimilise your situation in any way, but would it suprise you to hear the Police in your town will deal with this kind of call DOZENS of times every day. Please give us the resources to deal and we will.
The fact that you say you received one call four weeks ago makes me question the validity of the threat. A Police Officer cannot be outside 24/7.
On top of that in order to arrest the Police HAVE to prove ' a course of conduct' (decided on by the courts) defined as two or more occasions.
Can you definitively prove the identity or do you just 'know' it is? Without proof in writing the Police could be done for harrasment of the individual.
Is there any background, did you instigate contact? (not being flippant, 9 times out of 10 it is the aggrieved who instigated contact and then annoyed when the reply isn't what they wanted!)
If you truly feel threatened then keep calling. the Police are there to help as much as they can. They are not nor able to solve all the problems of peoples own making once it gets out of hand but they are there to truly help those who need it.
If you are truly scared don't take no for an answer. |

welcome to the real world the police are a waste of time,
i take it you are law abiding & this scroat is not, well the police will protect him not you because you are easy to prosicute as you will pay fines & do what you are told by police HE WILL NOT,
have seen it to many times, they forget who pays their wages,
people pay ÂŁ25 - ÂŁ50 to to sort these problems out with out come back, but there will be some one who he is scared of thats the person you need to get to know,
keep away from the police as much as you can because they will have you just to get targets up, they could even get you for wasting police time ringing them all time . |

imagine a housebound lady opening her front door to ask someone please to move their car as she was expecting visitors inc small children and they were not just blocking access to her house but there was a very strong chance of an accident because of the way the car was parked. Not asking in a domineering or nasty manner put in as nicer way as she could and worried because the daylight was going. Imagine a foul tirade of abuse and threats, imagine two young men passing and one saying words like 'come on mate give the lady a break let her off the bad mouthing and move the care along a bit' then imagine the woman phoning the police having heard the abuser threaten to kill the two young men grab something (a crowbar?monkey wrench, some kind of bar?)from inside the vehicle and run after them as they fled down the road. Yep I have been there - the police never came - and I was made Io feel guilty. What can you do about it - Nothing I am afraid .......... buzz all. |

i have a few questins of my own...do you or did you ever have a relationship with the person who called you and if so what kind was it? The police should have asked you that. If you know the person well enough to have any kind of "past" with him/her...there's a good chance that the police won't get involved until something actually bad happens... unfortunately, they don't want to get mixed up in domestic violence.
your best bet is to hire a bodyguard. |

"Threats and Intimidation" is only a misdemeanor and there is very little the police can do as phone call does not leave a lot of evidence. It is your word against the offender.
What did you expect? Did you expect that you would call the police and on your word alone someone would go to prison for ten years? We live in a country where there has to be due process to put someone in jail.
For it even to be Threats and Intimidation you would have to show the police that you had a reasonable fear the threat would be carried out. Does this person have the ability to hire a hitman and are you fearful that they will actually carry out this threat?
I will bet that your local PD is busy with more serious crime than mean phone calls, this is not incompetence. |

Yeah,
I saw a question in here from the person that hired the person to kill you. They said they hired a hit man to kill you a month ago and they had not killed you yet. They wanted to know how to deal with incompetent hit men. |
