How would you respond to a security officer ?

How would you respond to a security officer who said: “I don’t need to know anything about use of force, officer safety, or defensive tactics. All I ever do is sit at this access desk”?

You would call that a very smart security officer. Sounds like he will be a good one. He'll be doing his job instead of pretending to be a federal agent busting up international crime rings, in the mall.

I wouldnt hire him or if hes hired, i'd fire him. Fact is security guards prior to getting their license MUST take a course in use of force/self defence, if they pass they get their license, if not good luck.

As a Norwegian said to me once: "Security Guards are Strawberry Police"

The thing is Security Guards are limited in what they can do in a legal sense. All they can do is guard the place using their body as a wall or
"detain" some dummy who does not know his rights. Usually they will call in the Police. As they are not members of Her Majesty's Police Service they can't do a thing really.

Taking that in consideration though I would still not accept a guard who could not defend himself or myself as he is not ready to take on a fair dinkum assailant whom isn't innocent but ready to fight. You might as well get a nanny hey!
