There are better ways of handling this rather than do it on the spot.
Hypothetically speaking of course and this is not offering any advice, but this is what some other people do in situations such as this.
They walk away and find out where a guy like this lives using a private detective or something like that and then they let a few years pass by (the French say revenge is best dealt with on a cold platter)....and then they take care of business by starting s*hit with a guy like that when he's at the beach and off duty or somewhere when no one else is around and he is out of uniform. This is a much better tactic. Also, some people bring a friend to use as a witness and make sure that bad people who they do not like have no one around as witnesses and then they cannot go wrong because they say that the other guy (even an off duty officer) threw a punch at them and they were simply defending themselves and the witness will verify it if need be. |

You can't defend yourself from a bump. A bump is an accident and there is no defense from this. It sounds like you are trying to find an excuse to fight with the police, that is a very bad idea. You may be bigger than most officers, but from experience I can tell you that they will have the numbers on their side and a 50,000 volt taser will put you on the ground just a easily as it would a 98 pound weakling. Also, with your extremely large size, it would be justifiable for an officer to use a higher level of force against you than a person of average size. |

Theres no need if it was an accident. |

You've already answered your own question. The cop "bumped into (you)", he didn't assault you, or inflict bodily harm, or otherwise put you in danger. You know the truth of it. Don't cling to "self defense" as an excuse to rescue your pride.
Advice: avoid parties where the cops need to show up. Respect cops. They're the good guys. |

Don't you get tired of asking this same question over and over again with different variations? I'm 6'5, 375lbs can I do this, what will happen if I do that. Geez I am so tired of seeing this bullcrap question. The truth probably is you are 5'3, 100lbs. |

The tests for "self-defense" are whether or not you could have reasonably believed yourself to be in danger, and if you just enough force to stop the attack.
It sounds to me more like you just want to punch a cop. |

1. Why are you even asking this question?
2. If you bump into a cop do they have a right to defend themselves?
3. If a cop bumps into you and you turn and take a fighting stance or something similar...you're going to get tased/pepper sprayed/wacked with a baton/arrested trust me
How about grow up and realize sometimes people bump into you with no malicious intent. |

first off tough guy if a cop bumps into to you there is nothing to defend, and second the cop needs very little to beat and arrest you, and last, he has a gun, maybe a taser and pepper spray, so if you have any brains i wouldn't try defending myself from a cop unless it was with a lawyer |

i don't understand what that has to do with your weight, but it is better not to defend your self against a cop becuase they could just twist it around and say you assaulted an officer unless you have witnesses, plus why would you defend yourself if someone bumped into you |

jakflak

No. You don't have the right to 'defend yourself' if anyone 'bumps' into you.

Not with a police officer. I'm sure it was an accident. You wouldn't want to go to jail for assault on an officer. They don't take kindly to that kind of stuff. |

You don't need much of an excuse to get into a fight, do you? What's the matter with you? Most of the people in the world manage to go their entire lives without fighting over anything serious, let alone something as stupid as a "bump." You're overdue a reality check. |

Not unless the cop hauls of and whacks you upside the head for no reason, there are 50 witnesses who will say that, and then and only then can you whack the teeth out of his head. |
