I'm I going to jail for not paying my two year old ticket? ?

Hello..Ok this happened in south Texas. I was driving without a license and no insurance and I got pulled over.. I was not speeding. And well I got a ticket for that and never paid it or went to court. And so two years later I want to pay it now. So my questions are what exactly I'm I looking at? Jail time? Do i have a warrant? Is there someone I could talk to over the phone? Someone told me if I go try to pay it they will arrest me right away. But the thing is I do want to pay it and finally do the right thing. Please be blunt. thanks a lot in advance.

You probably do have a warrant. And your license may very well have been suspended.

Call the Clerk of Court and find out what you have to do. At a minimum, there will be a fine, late fee and a reinstatement fee to get your license back. Mail all of that in (definitely keep a copy for your records.) Then you are in a better position to see where you stand.

If you do all that, it is very doubtful they will jail you. The court is not really interested in jailing you for a traffic ticket. What they really want is your money, and for you to not come back to court again.

You should consult an attorney before you do anything. You may need help to stay out of jail.

There is likely a warrant, and it will catch up to when you least expect it... You might want to seek an attorney before you sitting in the back of a squad car asking for your one call for bail! You might want to get a good understanding of what BAIL will cost your family - if you don't have anyone to spot you, prepare to pay the piper...

Good luck...

Call the DA before the court date.

Make it clear that you are sorry, and want to make things right---but the larger problem is that you didn't have either a license or insurance. In my state, they can nail you for both big time, money wise---but usually no jail for a first offense. You may also find that you will not be allowed to drive for a few years---but Texas could be different.

Good luck.

You probably have a warrant. This means if you get pulled over for any reason the cops will know that you have a warrant, and they will arrest you accordingly. They will make you appear in court and pay your fine. Best to just turn yourself in. If you get pulled over on a Friday night, you will have to spend the whole weekend in jail.

you most likely have a warrant out but it's not a warrant to take you to jail. that's the reason why in the past 2 years the police haven't come knocking on your door. it's just a warrant to make sure you go to court and actually take care of your business. i don't live in texas but in my state the only way you'd be put in jail for that kind of warrant is if you we're driving down the road and an officer pulled you over for whatever reason (speeding, or he/she just ran your plates) then you'd be taken to jail and held until you could go to court (usually the following business day at 9am).

you'll most likely have to pay a heavy fine (around $500 or up, as i said i don't live in texas but the fine in my state is $500) and any possible suspensions on your license will most likely be lifted after you've gone to court and paid your fine.

i highly doubt you'll do jail time unless you get pulled over for whatever reason before that but then again as i said if you do it'll most likely be until the next morning when a judge can see you. remember it's traffic court and if this is your only offense the judge will most likely go easy on you.

You probably do have a warrent. and the best thing to do is pay the ticket. I doubt they will put you in jail, if they do i think a few days MAX. but I would expect a hefty fine.

You could have a bench warrant for a failure to appear. However, you can call the local police and they will tell you if one exists. If you are afraid to do so, have a friend call for you. Find out what the cost of the ticket plus court fees are. Chances are, they will tell you to just send a certafied check and give you the case number (to include on the check). Call back about 2 weeks later to make sure payment was posted and that should be it! You may still be asked to appear in court but I doubt it. If you are really scared, purchase a prepaid phone and make the call from it. Seriously, you need to get this cleared up and even if you could be arrested, waiting is only going to make it worse!

Well, if you don't pay it, they are going to put you in jail when they get you again sometime. Right now you may have to pay more for being so long.

ok look, you should have paid it, but, call the place you have the ticket from, dont go in and dont tell them your address, most places will take the payment over the phone, but if you do have to pay it in person and you have a warrant all they will do is see if you have the money if you do they will let you pay it and be on your way, you will be fine, and next time pay tickets when you get them, this was kinda duhh!!

My friend (17) got put on house arrest for an unpaid ticket. Since you are over 18 I think you will go to jail.
