A lot of security guards are either retired police officers, off-duty police officers, or police wannabes. The retirees and off-duty cops are our own, but some of the wannabes are can't-bes and tend to annoy us. Mostly I have great respect for security guards. |

I used to be a security guard when i was in college. I was nothing more than a clown in a cop costume. The job paid minimum wage. All I had to do was walk around a city parking garage to make it look like people cars were protected. I only did so once an hour and when people were coming and going. Most of the day I was sitting up in my own car watching tv or doing my homework.
Another cool aspect of the job was I could volunteer to work on the weekend, which usually were events like concerts, football, and basketball games. I got to watch for free, but had to leave 30 minutes early to go outside and wave a flashlight around to direct traffic. |

police and the public in general do not like security guards, b/c they see them as police wannabes. Calling a security guard a police officer means your saying he is responsible for your safety, when in fact a security guard is only responsible for protecting property, in most cases. I personally would want the police to handle the tough situations, let them put their lives at risk, y risk mine? I certainly don't get paid enough to save the day. Police see security guards as a lesser/weaker people who couldn't get in the academy, so they have some one to make/poke fun at, Personally i dont want to be a police officer. I work in security, and planning on becoming a surgeon. Let the public/police have their laughs, b/c ill be making a ton of money and living a great life in the near future. |
