take self defense and grappling/karate classes which could aid you in all physical areas of being a cop. keep determined!!

well my forensics teacher who is 39 and 4foot 11in, is in the process of joining law enforcement, all though for some places i think there is a requirement on certain things. if you train hard, no one has the right to deny you your goals.

I've been a police officer for 18 years. I'm 5'9 and 180 lbs. I wouldn't consider myself "small," but by no means am I a "large" man. The academy you will attend will provide you training in how to handle a variety of situations you may become involved with as a cop. You are given various tools: a baton, chemical agent, and firearm. You are given hours of DT (defensive tactics) training. However, your most powerful weapon is your COMMON SENSE. I am a VERY fast, strong man. I have excellent fighting skills...however, there's people out there who could absolutely tear me apart. My common sense tells me to wait for another car to arrive before I try to arrest the "missing link," or to quell a disturbance involving a group of people.

Go for it!! Realize your dream. It's the best job on the planet.

I am 5'2" and in my eleventh year of policing, there is another woman on my platoon who is slightly shorter (although she says that I am!). Go for it, height isn't everything and they routinely hire people in their early thirties on our department.

Contact your local Police Academy to find out what the qualifications are. There is a height limitations that you cannot be under. Also be aware that height limitations are different for men and women in some cases!

And for that "Armed and Famous", it is NOT realistic because you do have to be taller. It's a stupid show that doesn't show reality!

I have dwarfism and I am too short to be a police officer, to get into the army, and other professions. But even though I'm too short for those particular professions, doesn't mean I can't find something else to enjoy.

i would ask the dept that u are interested in and ask ive seen some short state patrol women in my state and they can whoop some butt

Specific requirements vary by agency but many require that candidates be able to perform certain tasks, like successfully completing an obstacle course (which might have a tall wall) within a time limit. Also, most agencies have age ranges for new candidates, generally 21-35.

I know a woman who is a firefighter and she is rather petite, but she works out and boy is she strong! So if it is your amibition, it's worth at least looking into a little further.

I'm pretty sure most places have abolished the height requirement as it is discriminatory.

If you can pass the physical, strength and endurance tests you should be fine.

I was in law enforcement myself and was in an academy with a woman of your description. When we were training for take down tactics, I witnessed this woman take down our 6'1'' 305lb instructor. So YES!!! you can do it. Shorter people can have the advantage over a taller person in an altercation.

Why,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you answered your own question what are you going to do with a 6' 250lb guy who is drunk and disorderly, I answered another question on female officers, you just justified my responce. You would be a useless back-up and put more people in jeopardy. stay busy with life. Just because you wanted to be a cop since 4th grade does not justify it. I would feel the same way about a 5' 1 male.
