I keep receiving strange phone calls from someone I don't know. About a month ago, I received the first call. It sounded like there was a TV in the background, but no-one spoke and hung up after about 5 seconds. They then called again, over 5 times, within the same hour before I unplugged the phone.
The day after, I continued to receive these calls. I ignored them all except for one, which I answered and told the caller that If they did not stop, I would have the call traced and I would beat their *** to a pulp. I swear that I heard someone LAUGH on the other end, then they hung up.
After that call, they "seemed" to stop, until last week. On Thursday of last week, I received a call and the caller "identified" himself as Ranjid Singh and told me that I owed £5000 to a credit card company and that If I didn't pay, he'd send debt collectors to my house! Firstly, I do not own any credit cards and secondly, I do not believe that this person is from a credit card company. After arguing with him for over 10 minutes, I hung up. About 20 minutes later, I received another blank phone call with the same TV background noise as before.
Since last Thursday, I receive an estimate of 20 of these calls per day. They come at different times - one arrived at 6am, one arrived at midnight last Saturday. Each phone call has the SAME background noise as the previous, and NOBODY answers. I am not sure if the blank calls are related to the fake credit debt call, but I am absolutely pissed off.
Also, this moron has also, somehow, managed to get my mobile number and calls me numerous times a day on top of the calls I get to my home phone. As usual, no answer. I need my cellphone switched on when at work as I regularly use it, and my boss has told me that I need to sort these calls out as they are distracting me and my colleagues from our work. I absolutely cannot afford to lose my job and I must now splash out over £100-200 for a new phone to get away from this spastic.
I do not know what number this person is calling from as it always shows up as "with-held". I do not answer these calls, only on the occasions I explained earlier. I do not know where to go from here in regards to this.
If it helps, I live in the U.K., my home telephone service is supplied by Virgin and so is my mobile service.
Additional Details
I have never posted my number anywhere online, so I am also baffled as to how this person got my number.
I shall contact Virgin tomorrow regarding this issue, and if they cannot solve my problem, I will contact the police as I believe these calls are violating my privacy and constitutes as telecommunication harassment.

i received calls similar to the ones you have, i just put the phone back down, without speaking, after about a week without any verbal response from me they got bored and stopped calling. if you inform your service provider, they will monitor your incoming calls, and hopefully catch the individual concerned. |

Contact the police and have them trace the calls. Have them put some kind of chip in your phone so they can hear every time the person calls. |

I wish i knew how to help you, but i don't know how he got your number online somewhere if you got it posted but if not idk. I am getting strange calls to. The person doesn't talk to me. Just calls and doesn't say a word. It's annoying! |

im not familiar with uk phone services cause i live in new york but that happens to me with fake calls i change my number. do that if possible and definetly look into it with the police if it gets worse! |

Although the number shows up as an unknown caller on your end, you should be able to block it. After all, it is coming from somewhere. I am not sure of the procedure with your phone service, but you may be able to look at your account online and figure it out that way. If not, I suggest contacting Virgin, and asking for their assistance. Keep a list of times the calls were made to your phone so they can cross reference the information you provide, and I am sure they can help you do something. It's probably something that they encounter all of the time. |

First of all, you need to make a police report for phone harassment. The officer will provide you a case number, which then you can call your phone company and request a phone trace. Even though the number does not identify itself, the phone company has access to it. Good luck! |

You do know you can call the police and have them trace the calls right? It's called harassment. I don't know how the laws work in the UK but here in the states that level of harassment is enough to convince the cops to trace the call and deal with whoever it is doing this to you. |
