I don't understand this sentence in my book...?

I don't understand a sentence in my book.

In one part of the book, it's talking about what you should do when pulled over by a police officer. The section something like this:

"If the policeman parks his car, immediately go over to his car with a submissive appearance, looking apologetic, etc. However, don't do this in the United States, where rushing over to a police car may result in sudden lead poisoning."

I live in the United States and I don't understand this...

I believe they are saying that in the US if you are pulled over by the cops and you get out of your car and rush over to their car you are going to get shot...

you really should just sit in your car and wait for them to come to you.

I assume that's a joking reference to getting shot... lead bullets, lead poisoning... if you run up to a cop car you might get shot

The lead poisoning is a reference to being shot. When stopped by a cop stay in your car and let him approach you.

That means they might shoot you with a bullet. When you get pulled over in the US you STAY in your car and wait for the cop to come to you otherwise they feel threatened.

when a cop pulls you over you should sit in your car and open your window. Do not get out unless he instructs you to do so.
Wait until the cop speaks and do not offer any information other than your name, address if asked for and your license and insurance papers. DO NOT ADMIT TO SPEEDING OR ANYTHING ELSE.
Be polite but uninformative. Answer the cop's questions with questions where possible..
Did you know that you were going 65mph? Answer, Was I?
Did you know the limit here is 45 mpg? Is it?
Why were you speeding? Was I? or, I was not speeding.
Do not be confrontational. Do not argue..
Do not give the cop any reason to remember you or anything you said.
If you decide to plead not guilty, the less the cop remembers the better your chances of beating it.
As for the lead poisoning - nonsense. Just do as the cop instructs and you'll be fine.
Be pleasant, be polite, say as little as possible. Do not admit guilt.
If you do he wiull make notes of it and use those notes in court.

In the U.S. police officers carry firearms. Suddenly & rapidly approaching their patrol car with them inside during a traffic stop is going to cause them to be concerned and possibly shoot you. "Lead poisoning" = Getting shot- bullets are traditionally made of Lead.

it means if u do that u will be hit with there club. usually if a policeman pulls u over in the us he will some to u.
