I got a SPEEDING ticket while going down a hill. first speeding ticket ever...would should i do?
|
i made a right turn and started driving on a slightly uphill curve..i did not know my car was going to slightly accelerate coming down and once i was aware of it...i started braking. but, there was a cop hidden in the bushes that clocked my speed going down a hill at 59. in a 45. but, sadly he stopped me and mentioned he's stopping me for driving in fog. (there was fog in the sky not low dense fog) so, i got a speeding ticket for my APPROACHING speed.
1. it's my first time ever being stopped by cops. let alone be ticketed.
2. i was aware of my speed increase but i was on my brakes the entire time...doesnt it take up to 3-5 seconds to return to a slower speed? i tried..i honestly am not a speeder...i was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
3. what now? do i contest? do i postpone? do i plead guilty?
i wonder why all my friends who speed up to 80 and run red lights never get ticketed..but on my way to buy my mom breakfast on my one day off i get a speeding ticket.... Additional Details court appearance is next month on the 26th. i looked it up on the court date and it looks like he scheduled me as a first case. my time is right when the court opens....
well of course i've got to take care of it...i'm still waiting on the actual citation to show up in the mail.

just pay the ticket. Cops dont care where you are. If your speeding, your speeding. Some states have intrapment laws ( they cant be hiding) double check. But 59 in a 45 was more than a little over another 6 mph u could be in serious trouble some states its a felony. BE thankful. Watch ur mph & be safe. |

Take responsibility for your actions, pay the ticket, and move on with your life. |

hmmmm....are you failing to take responsibility for your personal actions?
You pay your ticket, go to traffic court, and slow down...like the rest of us (or don't slow down....just don't run me off the road).
Everybody speeds...you got caught. Don't cry over it.
And don't cry because your friends haven't gotten caught yet. They probably will eventually, or maybe they will learn from your lesson!! |

best thing to do is to go to court, be honest and maybe you'll get it written off or reduced. |

Either pay the ticket or go to traffic school if your state lets you I don't know how old you are but most states you can go to traffic school only if you are older than 18. |
|

Who Am I?
 |
take improve traffic school and don't get another ticket for another two years to return your premium to where it was before....if ur a good student somehow that makes you better driver...if you can get the grades you'll receive a discount in your premium... |

Contest the ticket. Ask for a private hearing in the Judges' chamber.
1. Ask the Judge to produce documentation that the ticketing officer is( Radar qualified).
2. Ask the Judge if the bush or the "fog" could have affected the radar reading.
3. Ask the Judge to produce documentation of the radar device being correctly "calibrated' at the time of the incident.
4. Ask the Judge if there is a law against driving in the fog? (Since that was the initial reason given for the stop).
5. After this is all over and taken care of, visit your local city hall and study the local laws and come prepared for the next time.
This cop was obviously having a "bad day", and wanted to intimidate you by using his badge as being the ultimate authority.
But remember, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and we should often exercise our knowledge of the law to stop the intimidation of these macho cops who's "authority" can only go so far.
And don't let the financial woes of the city trick you into paying a ticket to complete a "ticket quota" to help pay the salaries of these overstaffed and under-worked police departments.
The US. Constitution was written to protect our rights and we should all learn how to excersise them when needed! |

Were you speeding ? Darn near 60 in a 45... I'd say so.
"i tried..i honestly am not a speeder..."
Maybe, but at this time you were.
Just get it over with and pay the ticket. |

well, you can always hire a lawyer (if youre really that worried about it, or if you have that kind of money to spend) an attorney could get it expunged but then youd pay more for the representation than you would have for the ticket. the only thing i can tell you is to resolve it quickly because if it is unpaid for over 30 days then they may suspend your license.
honestly, just pay the fine and take drivers school or something and keep it off of your record. |

Pay your fine before you end up with a bench warrant for your arrest.
If you have to show up for court, plead guilty and pay your fine. |

1. Depending on what state you live in, you can contest the ticket, meaning that the cop will have to show up in court. You will have to pay the bail amount first (pay the ticket), then you will get another court date. They will bring in the cop and he will tell his side, then you will have the chance to tell your side (I take it there were no passengers). About 85% of the time the judge will take the cops side.
2. Pay the ticket and go to traffic school. There won't be any points against your driving record. |

Sadly it is mostly worth it jsut to pay it off vs fighting as you are mostly will lose more money being off the day from work then just paying it off. |

contest its worth a shot. I would be worried too because it's so much better to have a clean driving record, if there is something that you can do about it try!
People say take responsibility. Ha! Where I live the cops drive worse than the people they ticket. It's not always ok, and you don't always have to take responsibility for something if there is a reasonable-reason for what happened. It's not like you were doing 80. It seems that cops have their times of the month where they sit and give tickets to people that aren't really causing any harm to anyone. They are always out at the first of each month or so around here. It was the end of the month in another area I lived a few years back. |
