You got in trouble because the parking lot is still public and you were driving recklessly. The police don't have to tell you they will be notifying your parents, and I wouldn't complain about what they asked you for information-wise considering they let you off easy this time. But they need all your contact info since they're probably keeping a record of this contact you had with the police. Keep this in mind. You're under 18, you're a male and you have a thing for speed. You're in the highest mortality group for car accidents. Don't treat driving like a game. My son's lost several really close friends recently to driving accidents, mostly involving driving too fast for conditions. The last one, the young man's legs were torn from his body when he was ejected. His friends were traumatized to watch him die a horrible, screaming death.I'm sorry to be graphic, but this is life and death, not a game. Don't be the next one.

You got a warning, not a big deal considering what you were doing. The cop took your info because he wanted to be able to find you if there was damage to any of the buildings, parking lot, vehicles, or people. Someone probably called in the complaint and they need the info for the report.

racers and cops have always played cat and mouse.. they were pretty cool actually they could have impounded your cars and hauled you off..There are better places to race..look around. I live in Utah.. there are abandon landing strips, drag strips one can use for a small fee and the Bonneville Salt Flats where world land speed records are held.. When I lived in Fresno we use to just go out in teh country.. we had an EMT and a tow truck driver present ALWAYS so when the cops did sneak up on us they seldom did little more than watch.

Honestly you are lucky you are not in more trouble than you are. Racing is utterly stupid, illegal and dangerous. There are ramifications with your vehicle insurance, since racing pretty much invalidates it.

You need to grow up and realize that a car is a dangerous weapon and if you keep behaving like this you could end up dead, crippled or at best with no car or license to drive.

Sometimes they just want to know all your info and check to see if you have been in trouble before. Or they just want to give you a good scare so they don't have to really call your parents. Or they really might call your parents and they want to make sure they have the right info.

You are a minor and pretty much have NO personal rights. They don't have to tell you if they're going to inform your parents. They could have confiscated your cars right on the spot and you would lose your license until 18. You're lucky you just got a warning.

Look slick, you got a WARNING. It could have cost you money if the police wanted to play hardball.

The police want to know who your parents are, where you go to school, and your telephone number in case they need to contact you. In most cases, this information never leaves the police officer's notebook. The police routinely ask people the same type of questions.

One instance where this might be needed is if one of those two parked cars was later discovered to have been used in a crime. The police would want to know if you had seen who had driven the car a description of the passengers etc.

Another instance is if the owner of one of those cars reported a hit and run in the parking lot. If the police know how to get ahold of you, they can contact you and look at your car in order to make sure that YOU were not involved. The police are usually pretty busy. If they can eliminate you as a suspect right away, they will be able to concentrate on viable leads.

Be glad you weren't up to anything REALLY stupid.You would've had more trouble than you know what to do with.
It sounds like these cops were OK,otherwise they would've made things hard on you.Tickets,impounded vehicles,searched,frisked,handcuffed,etc...
These guys probably recognized that ya'll were just bein' kids,and took it easy on ya!
As far as them telling you what they're gonna do about notifying your parents......you're a minor! What do ya THINK they're gonna do?! You have almost NO rights under the law when yer under 18.
Be glad these cops were cool to you! You might not think they were.....but trust me! They were cool!
