I was going 70 on a 60mph highway (i know that's silly, he said it was a zero-tolerance area and he has to give everyone a ticket) but then the officer looked at me and said "I am not going to show up to court for most of these, so don't pay the fine and instead go to court okay? HINT HINT WINK WINK" then he just winked at me and started talking about my husbands job in the military??
I know that if the officer doesn't show up, that it gets dismissed, but what if he actually DOES show up? Why would he pull me over, write me a ticket, then tell me he isn't even going to bother to show up at the courthouse? And in Texas, generally how long does it take to get your court date done because I am supposed to be moving to Tennessee in 3 weeks...
And is it the trial itself that the cop needs to show up to, or does it get dismissed if he doesn't come to the pre-trial thing?

Yes I hardly ever speed; I was going the same speed as the traffic around me. I was in no hurry and didn't care what time i arrived at my destination. He only pulled me over because my lane was the only empty lane (no cars behind me) and easiest for him to reach.
I am just confused because he said "most of these tickets i am not showing up to court for" so how would he pick which ones to go to? What if he shows up to mine still? Idk, I do not like the whole court scene and I always follow traffic laws to the best of my ability... don't want this on my record.

I wish I could of answered this right away since these people cleary don't know what to tell u. Well every ticket I have ever had the court date was on the ticket. When u show up to court on that day be on time and there will be a bunch of cops standing to the side and look for the cop. Trust me if u don't see him then he was telling the truth and in that case the judge will ask for the not guilty cases that will be u so make sure u get in line and one by one he will decide the penalty but if ur cop isn't there he has to dismiss u. Easy as pie! Ok so let's say u look over and the cop is there then instead of going non guilty just wait and plead guilty and the judge will end up only making u pay half the fine and probly reduce the points. Don't plead not guilty if u see him cuz ull just end up guilty ne ways and then u have to pay the entire ticket.
Basically cop there plead guilty fine will be reduced

Youre exactly right...the trial (and ticket) is completely dismissed if the officer doesnt show. What a cool guy, must have been because of your husband and the military. |

He may very well know that he wont be there. He's being a nice guy by telling you that. Go to court chances are he will not be there.
The case will be dismissed. If he does show Tell the judge the you were only going with the flow and did not want to be the slowest bird in the flock to cause an accident and you were using you best judgment under the conditions of the road.

The police officer could get in trouble if his superior found out he wasnt enforcing the zero tolerance but he might also think it is bull so tell you to fight it and you will win. Dont speed next time? |

These cops have a quota of tickets they have to give out whether or not they show up in court. I don't know what the "wink-wink" thing is unless you're a pretty girl and he was flirting. Show up in court and take it from there. |
