If you increased your speed to make the yellow light, then you had enough time to stop before the light turned red. Entering the intersection on a yellow light is illegal. As far as not having the correct address on your license, it would depend on how long ago you moved. If it was recent, just get it corrected, you will have to anyway before court. If it's been a while, then technically, you presented false identification. |

Pay the ticket.
You just admitted that you sped up to make the light - that is a violation of the "basic speed law" which says that you may only go as fast as it is safe - regardless of the speed limit.
It is not safe to speed up for a yellow light.
The address thing is nothing - just show the judge that you have filed the appropriate paperwork with the motor vehicle department. |

I am not sure. I think it is right that they did that. |

If it's points, I'd fight it. I got a speeding ticket and just by going to court they knocked it down from 4 points to 2. It's worth it. |

Yes you should fight the ticket. If the officer doesn't show up the ticket will probably get dropped. Before you go get your license updated, if you were able to hold on to it. Also running a stale yellow light can get you a ticket at the officer's discretion. |

Red light means stop.
Green light means go.
But yellow light does NOT mean go faster. |

You got pulled over because you sped up. A yellow light is there so you know that a red light is coming up. When you approach a yellow light, you're supposed to slow down to acknowledge seeing the light, and that you know it will soon turn red. |

Driving through an intersection when the traffic light is yellow is not something you can be cited for. At least in my state. |

No such violation for "running a yellow light". Look at the violation description and try again. |

The time of day this happened does not matter. They say when the light is yellow that is an indication that your brake lights should to on and you should prepare to stop. In Illinois you are required to change the address on your license within thirty days of your move. Good luck. Maybe you can go to traffic school if they still have it. At least for one of the tickets. |

Just how up to court and plead no contest (they'll have a plea bargain for you). They will usually reduce the points they take off, but you'll have to pay the fines. And they were perfectly warranted ticketing you as the others have said. It was yellow and you should have been slowing down...
Just to add... we Wisconsin drivers up here can't stand Illinois drivers for just these reasons. Be safe, don't speed excessively and follow the rules... hah. |

In Illinois - you must reduce speed at an intersection - regardless of the lights color - you probably juiced it when the light was turning.
You have ten days to notify SOS of address change.

Illinois may be different, But check your ticket you were probably written up for unsafe speed or unsafe action. There is no law against running a yellow light. But if it is dangerous in the manner you did it they write you for that. As far as not having your address written just write it on there and show the judge. They will dismiss that. you could argue that the speed was not above the limit but if it was below the limit but unsafe you will loose unless the officer fails to show for the trial. |

You were screwed the minute you punched the gas pedal and sped through a yellow light. Having a yellow means to slow in anticipation of stopping, you don't speed up. That's how accidents happen. Pay the ticket and see it as a lesson learned. |

Ooohhh....I think I'd take that one to court. It was a YELLOW light, right...and not red. As long as you didn't break the speed limit trying to make the light, I don't see why you were pulled over, unless the cop needed to make his ticket quota for the day.
If you just moved and have not been able to get your license changed yet, you might get some sympathy from the judge. However, some states let you do that type of thing online now. But, if it's been awhile since you moved you might be out of luck on the license thing.
I'd definitely take the yellow light ticket to court, though. One tip....tell the judge you don't mind paying the fine, but you want to protect your driving record from getting points on it. Sometimes they will be nice and let you pay the fine with no points on your license if you appear sincerely concerned about doing the right thing. |

Wow, wrong address is False Information? How horrible. The four years I was in the military, I kept my hometown license, even though I didn't live at that address anymore. I even had a Secret clearance, but that wouldn't matter because I presented False Information when I was pulled over for speeding. Horrors! What have I done!!! |

I fought a ticket once, and when the traffic cop didn't show the court threw my ticket out. |
