They should, you were driving without a license and that is your problem. Hope for the best and keep a better watch for expiry dates for the rest of your life. |

If by licence you mean driving licence, then it must have been a provisional licence? The full licence lasts until you are 70 and I take it you are not that old? If you mean road fund licence or correctly Vehicle Excise Licence, then yes you would be reported to the DVLA who may choose just to ask you for the back payment without prosecution. If it was your provisional driving licence it would norammly be a warning.
Can you clarify and edit what licence you mean? |

Most likely, yes they will. If it is like the USA your license is due on your birthday and here they never believe that you forgot. I have found that going to court will often be cheaper then just paying the waiver and getting the full points on your record. Paying the waiver admits quilt, if you goto court you can at least argue your case. |

Sorry but you are likely to get a fine and 3 points on your license which you need to renew. |

I would imagine you will get a summons for this.
Ignorance is no defence. No licence = no insurance and I wouldn't want to be in a collision with you. |

If you were driving without a valid license, that is an offence, and you may well get charged and fined. It will teach yoiu to stop acting like a total muppet. |

That all determines on why you didn't re-new your license?
If you just forgot, go and pay to re-new it and show the judge you paid and maybe they'll be nice and drop the charges.. Other implications are not stated. |

I appreciate what you are saying but you have still committed an offence of driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. Its not much of an excuse to say it expired. You should recieve a summons through the post. The penalty is 3-6 points and a small fine.

Unfortunately you will be fined, as they say ignorance isn't innocence and this will have made your insurance invalid, so possibly another fine for that. |

First of all it's a licence, not a license - irrespective of what spellchecker might say. License is a verb (to be licensed) and licence is a noun (to have a licence).
Odds are you'll be charged with not having one which would be correct. However, you must attend Court to assure the Court that this was a renewal oversight and not a case of not having a licence at all. Still an offence, but the Court will excecise leniency and may well drop it. BUT be sure to be able to prove you have applied for your new licence and best of all take the new licnce it to Court as evidence and odds are they'll drop this part. |

Normally in most cases when your stopped for any violation and your license is expired and you have no outstanding warrants against you. You will be alowed to get them renewed without a charge and that is totally up to the arresting officer and your behavior getting a ticket for what ever offense you did. |

Possibly they will, I think the saying still applies in this case. "Ignorance in the eyes of the law, is no excuse". |

ignorance is no excuse - you will be charged with drivign without a licence - I would be surprised if you were not charged as otherwise everyone who was drivign without a licence could just use that excuse. |

If you get caught driving without your lisence (and it is NOT expired), the cop will write down your information and keep a tab on you. Then, you have 24 hours to produce ALL your documents and bring them to the police station for verification. If you do so, then they won't press charges or fine you.
However, since your license was expired, I am pretty sure they will have to press charges and fine you. This might make your insurance premiums go up as well. This happened to my mom. |

im pretty sure cops dont "do you" for something like that, we leave that stuff to the rapists. cops dont do people for doing crimes. thats just wrong :) |

Unless a law-enforcement officer actually catches you behind the wheel of a moving vehicle with the key in the igntion, you cannot be assumed to have operated a vehicle at all.
For all they know, you could have taken a taxi, or a bus, or been driven by a friend or other acquaintance, or perhaps even walked.
It sounds to me like you actually ran into one of the rare decent badge-bearers, who was letting you know ahead of time NOT to get caught driving before getting the license renewed.
Or, it might just be that you caught a typical badge bearer on an extremely good day.
Either way, don't press your luck: get it renewed, ASAP. |
