I got stopped for going through a yellow light. Is it illegal?

Although I got off with a warning, I was just pulled over for going through a yellow light. I went through the intersection about 2 seconds after the light turned yellow, and when I was 3/4 through that intersection (under the actual traffic light), the light turned red. The cop was a really nice guy, but I want to know if this is actually illegal. Also because he gave me a warning and asked for some of my personal information, does this mean he's going to send some kind of letter to my house within the next few days.

It seems a stupid reason to pull you over and it was.But to the cop it was legal reason that he could stop you for.That was what he wanted.Its against the constitution for them to stop you for no reason.So they look for stupid little reasons.Once they have you "legally " pulled over what they hope to find is a drunk driver or other violations.They also get to just check you out and snoop around your car.NOW THATS AMERICA!
he wont send a letter to your house. he just documents in his patrol log that he stopped u such a time at such a place.there wont be a public record and no letter will be sent to you.Relax . cops pull people over and give warnings all the time.

I am not sure what everyone else means but in order to receive a ticket for failure to stop at a stop light your two front tires must have not crossed the white line in front of the light. If your 2 front tires are completely clear of the white line before the light turns red, then you are okay.

You were given a warning.
To be in the clear, when traveling if the light turns yellow as you enter then intersection you may make it.
The actual light changes for a yellow is approx 3-4 sec.
At 35 mph you can clear an intersection.
NOTE clear means by laws you have to be on the other side of the opposite crosswalk to have cleared an intersection.

been there done that...THE COP WROTE ME UP,.BECAUSE HE THOUGHT I RAN THE RED BUT I DIDN'T AND I HAD TWO OTHER PEOPLE IN THE CAR,"WITNESSES"..I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE THE OTHER LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION,AND I ARGUED THIS POINT TO HIM,BUT HE GAVE ME A TICKET ANYWAY, BUT HE MUST HAVE REVIEWED THE VIDEO FROM HIS CAR BECAUSE I WAS NEVER CHARGED AND MADE TO GO TO COURT,YEARS AGO...IN YOUR CASE HE WAS JUST CHECKING IF YOU WERE DRUNK BECAUSE IT WAS A CLOSE CALL.. MY OPINION ANYWAY.BUT NO ,ITS NOT ILLEGAL

unless there are cameras or witnesses its the cops word against yours.

honestly you could fight it, but it wouldn't be worth it. justice looks out for its own and they would stone wall you like crazy

and i think technically you cannot have any portion of your vehicle in the intersection when the light is red. i know my buddy got a ticket for going through a red when he stopped across the line!! hilarious!!!
i say just let it go. maybe he/she stopped you cause you're cute?! take it as a compliment...
