I have a nieghbour who has reported me for noise but I haven't even been in?

He accuses me of leaving my shower on all day to affect his water supply. He keeps calling me a liar and giving me abuse. He has reported me too enviromental health who are sending me out a diary. Where do I stand, what should I do next. I have tried to resolve the problem and apologise for any noise I might be making. What should I do?

When dealing with an obsessive, apologising is the last thing you should do. That simply reinforces his delusions. Your local authority will have a department that deals with nuisance neighbours (it may be part of environmental health). Contact them and tell them you are being abused by your mentally ill neighbour and you are concerned for his safety.

Hmm he sounds like a difficult neighbour.

Keep records in the diary when you receive it, that is all you can do really. There is no way your shower would affect his water supply unless it was somehow connected up together! Perhaps the guy is a little er, special.

Does he say what kind of noise? Are you playing loud music? If you genuinely aren't disturbing the peace, then you have nothing to worry about.

Slip the local hood wearing fraternity a nice red 50 and tell them to go hospitalise the person, then just sit back and enjoy the peace & quiet or make as much noise as you like.

This person sounds as though they want any kind of attention. If you are not even home when this person has been making complaints, you may be able to sue for making false reports. I would keep a log of every time this continues just in case. Good luck!

Anyone can make an allegation but it will not stand without supporting hard evidence.
I used to work with teenagers who can be known to play loud music. One young man was housed in a flat where all his neighbours were elderly. The neighbours were given equipment to record the level of music coming from his flat late at night. The music wasn't loud to him but it was to the neighbours. The decision to move him was based on the hard evidence of the recording equipment.

Ask him round for a drink - you never know, he might just be a bit scared of you, so he reports things out of hand. Try reasoning with him first, then at least you've done your bit.
