I have a problem concerning an "unregistered" firearm, Police office being the one with the gun?

i know a Police officer that is currently carrying an "unregistered" firearm that was transported across state lines. When i asked if this firearm was going to be registered they stated that they did not have to register it.

1) Is this practice in anyway legal for this said officer to possess?
2) Why would a police officer need to carry a weapon that was unregistered?

First of all, you do not have to register a firearm. You may have to fill out a "permit to aquire" or have a license to carry it, but you do not have to register it. There is no federal gun registry.

Secondly, law enforcement officers are allowed to carry weapons across state lines.....as are you. For example, If you have a concealed weapons license in Florida then your license is valid in any state that recognizes a Florida concealed weapons license. If it isn't recognized, then you might be in trouble.

Lastly, law enforcement officers are actually exempt from having to carry a concealed weapons license as a result of H.R. 218. This means that we can carry a concealed weapon across state lines.

So, in conclusion, this officer is not doing anything wrong or illegal.

There is no 'registration' requirement for handguns. Some states may have some 'limitations' but law enforcement officers are exempt from that documentation.

Although the current administration wants to control all weapons, there is no such registration requirement in place at the national level.

I'm a cop and I have at least 10 weapons, including assault weapons, and none of my guns are 'registered'.

Now if it is a 'stolen' gun, that's a whole different ballgame.

But, I must agree... mind your own business.

The practice is NOT justified. 99.999 percent of police officers would not do this sort of thing.

OK then so ask him? I don't know what else to tell you. You just 'suspect' him of this and don't really know the truth. If you already knew this, then why come on YA and ask?
