A friend of mine is thinking about going into blackwater and i was wondering, do people in blackwater get to come home often? Or do they have to be gone for a long time?

The majority of companies in hostile areas (Iraq/Afghanistan) doing security work rotate you home every 3 months for 20-30 days...... Some do 2 months on - 1 off, or similar, but usually you aren't gone for years at a time forcibly. Or, you sign a 6 month obligation and AT SOME POINT they will give you a break, could be early, could be later.... It depends on what government contract he goes with within Xe too.... all depends on manning issues and contractual obligations set forth by the client. There is really no "standard" with the industry, but more so of what is commonly decided upon. Most leave time with any company is unpaid, though they do exist. I can't speak for South American or Africa contracts though. Bottom line: He won't be disappearing for years unless he wants to.
Edit: Those are leave rotations, not contract lengths.... Contract lengths vary from company to company, measured in weeks, months, or years. |

First blackwater changed their name. There is no Blackwater so if he is applying to some company called blackwater it is a scam, there are many out there.
It depends on where you go and how much money you want.
They do work in the US, Central and South America not just Iraq.
If you are a US citizen or resident working overseas and you do not come home for 9 months and only 1 time in a year your pay is US tax free.
So a lot of guys do not come back to the US for a year.
They have all kinds of contracts and you can negotiate if you qualify. |

If your friend doesn't have special forces experience, he's wasting his time.
If he does, then he will be gone for months at a time. Contracts are overseas and it's hard to get back. |
