I have a roommate who uses racial slurs on me, is there a law that stops a person from doing that?

no there is no law and it cannot be a hate crime without first being a crime. It is likely contrary to school rules, but there is no crime that consists solely of using racial slurs.

Talk to him first and let him know you do not appreciate it.If that don't work, then talk to the Dean and tell him unless he does something about it, you will file law suit against him for "maintaining a hostile environment".Nothing gets action faster than threatening to take away some rich man's money.

Report him to the Dean of the college or university you attend. if he's doing it to you, he's doing it to others too. This racist bigot needs to be stopped.

You need to to complain to student housing immediately and be asked to be placed somewhere else, and he should be kicked out of student housing or something. I have never seen a school that will allow hate crimes.

Legally you could contact the school and tell them whats going on. Let them know you'd like for them to reassign you effective immediately because the situation makes you feel threatened. If they refuse, let them know you will need to take further action against them, that should scare them into taking action.

Tell him straight out you don't like it. If he doesn't listen, do it with a school counselor in you presence. I've never heard of legislation for name calling however, have u tried threatening him with civil action?

No you could ask him to stop saying it and tell him why. The best thing you can do is reason with people. If it gets too out of hand it could be harassment and you could get the cops involved. But chances are they'd say work it out or move away from each other.
