I have a warrant for a bad check a wrote in tx, im in mexico for vacation will they arrest me crossing back?

Your best bet is to call an attorney in the US and ask him your question(s).

We the people of Yahoo answers are well meaning and wish the best for all (usually), but what you really need is to talk to an attorney who could answer this question, tell you your options, and recommend the safest and wisest thing for you to do.

I doubt it because crossing back is a Federal matter. While your warrant is a State matter.

If they run a check on your name it's possible that you could be arrested, but not very likely. You're a relatively small fish and they've got bigger and better things to do. If I were you, when I got back to Texas, I would immediately turn myself in on the warrant, and they should issue you a court date. Be prepared to pay the amount of the check on the court date, and make sure you show up for it! If they really want to get ugly about it, many states have a provision that allows the court to make you pay the person 3 times the amount of the check..... on top of the conviction and the fines you would pay the court. By you showing up to court and being able to pay the amount of the check right then and there, the court would probably be willing to dismiss the whole thing. Then you could quit having to worry about being arrested.

why would you leave the country with the knowledge that you have an active warrant..?!! not your best decision I suppose...most Texas agencies will NOT extradite for a misdemeanor such as theft by check...I suggest you have a friend (local) pay your fine for you BEFORE you attempt re-entry, or your next vacation may be 6-12 months long..!! good luck

You face being arrested at a Texas crossing. I'd suggest you call the DA's hot check section wherever you wrote the check and find out how to pay it and get it gone.
I mean, if you can afford to vacation in Mexico, you can pay your hot checks.

ITS A MISDEMENOR AND CARRYS LESS THAN 30 DAYS IN JAIL AND MOST OF THE TIME YOU JUST OWN THE MONEY BACK TO THE PERSON WHO RECEIVED THE BACK CHECKS AND RETURNED CHECK FEE'S AND PAPER COST TO THE D.A. CONTACT THE D.A. WHERE THE CHECKS WHERE WRITTEN AND ASK TO TURN YOUR SELF IN, IF YOU DO GET JAILED IT WILL BE LESS THAN 24 HOURS...ITS A CLASS 3 MISDEMENOR...ITS NOT A FELONY UNLESS THEY CAN PROVED THAT YOU FLED TO MEXICO TO AVOID PROSECUTION...DONT WORRY ABOUT IT..

It seems to me like that yeah, you'll have a Bench Warrant, one that you cannot post bail to. You are currently out of jurisdiction in Mexico, and yes, when you do cross into the U.S. they will extradite you. I wish you well. It seems to me that you may have a chance if the check did not go through district court, but a city court. City courts are not as "into extradition for petty checks". It's an expense to the city. Depending on the amount, like an amount less than fifty, I doubt a city would extradite. Good Luck!

If you wrote the check 2 years ago, you should already have taken care of it.

If you are sincere, even in Mexico, send them a letter. Keep a copy of the letter.

If you are there long enough, maybe they will send you a letter back in response.

If you can show good faith to the company, they may drop the charges.

However, it will take time to make all this happen. The process will take severall weeks before the warrant is removed if there actually is one.

The flip side is - - - - They don't stop every single person coming into the U. S. and do a background check so you might get lucky and be in the percentage that just gets to walk past and show your passport.

It's pretty unlikely that they would arrest and extradite you for a misdemeanor crime.
