I do not hate the Police. Just trying to see from the responders how accurate a statement this is. If you hate the Police, can you give us a reason why? Thank you.

But the 50% that hate us LOVE us when THEY NEED US!

Because they tend to be tools. Rude, tactless power junkies, the vast majority of them.

NO I DO NOT HATE POLICE OFFICERS. I do hate the corruption / behavior of many of them. I recognize they serve a purpose and it's a difficult job to do. I think we as a society need to get more involved and raise the bar of what we expect from our police. We need to set up systems and use technology to police them / help keep them honest. Lastly, we need to change laws to provide police with an incentive/serious consequence if they beat or abuse citizens or get caught in bribes etc. We really need change.

i dont hate all them just when i lived in oregon i had 2 experiences where i was illigally searched i had nothin on me and there was no reason for a search. i was underage and even asked for a female to search but they didnt care. anyways i have come across alot of them like that and kno alot of corrupt ones as well. but i dont hate them, i just dont like the ones that use their privelidge to harm others expecially when there is no reason for it. anyway im intrested in hearin more answers to this question....propps!

i moved to a small town and i can honestly say i HATE cops, starting from trying to make their QUOTA every month by stopping any one driving past 10pm for no reason and hopfully they would find something wrong to write a ticket for, all the way to one of them getting accused of providing a minor with alcohol that lead to her death and his BUDDIES refusing to investigate it,which led to half of them getting fired.

what that's saying is that around 50% of the population have trouble with empathy (aka A**h****s). i say around 50% because some of the 50% who like policeman may have issues with people in general while some people who hate police may have legit reasons, so they just about even out.

people that hate policeman probably give a lot of bs to waiters, fast food employees, janitors, regular joes, etc. and/or may have lots of opinions on how things should be done, but refuses to think of the big picture, like how it would only benefit the individual rather than people on the whole. if people can be innately empathetic, there would be less hate in general. like if people realize that cops have to find a balance between fairness (treating everyone equally) and leniency (giving people a break), people would realize they are in a lose-lose situation in the public eye. people that break the rules want leniency assuming they are in the mercy of an officer's will, but the dilemma is that, they can't be both fair and lenient and still be doing their jobs. but because it's their faces you see, any problem with the law goes on their shoulders, because they represent the law. and the police must have some leniency because studies show that people tend to personalize incarceration, in other words people that get busted start to believe they are criminals and go down in the wrong road.

i dont hate cops, they gotta do what they gotta do. i dont hate fast food people neither, not because they can spit in my food but because my first job was in fast foods and i know how hard it is. yes, people, it's not easy pushing buttons and taking orders because that's only the tip of the iceberg, not to mention most people are cranky all the time and have some preconcieved notion we are idiots, which can have an effect eventually.

and i repeat, nobody is perfect, there will always be exceptions and i do recognize that there are legit reasons to be mad at the police.

I'm that there are some respectable officers out there that actually do their job right by protecting their community and keeping peace.
However, yes, I hate cops. Mostly because I've had a few bad run-ins with them. Let me first establish that my city has the largest cop-citizen ratio in the country. So, there are way too many of them around, and they have to be really sneaky and charge people with the smallest offences, just to meet their monthly quota. I cant have any fun with my friends for too long, because they break up every party or get-together, whether we are breaking the law or not. I have seen my friends get searched many times, usually without reason.
I live in Canada and the legal drinking age is 18. Last summer, I was partying with about 20 friends in my friend's apartment above the bakery his parents own. The cops obviously were having a slow night, and had nothing better to do than break it up. They know his place becuase he has had a party before. There were 4 cops, in individual cruisers, one with dogs. (really?? for a small get-together?). They walked upstairs unannounced (they are supposed to at least knock and announce themselves before entering a home). The people at the party were all between the ages of 17-20, and only 3 of us were minors. I was about 5 months away from my 18th birthday. The first cop through the door walked straight up to me and seized the drink in my hand, smelled it (it was alchoholic) and took me to the backseat of his cruiser. I was only wearing a tank top and it was a very cool night, so I requested my jacket, and he refused. He also searched my purse, which I later found out he is not authorized to do without my permission. He ticketed me for underage drinking, with a $250 fine, and drove me home. Now, not only was I sober, but I had been holding my 19-year-old boyfriends drink when the police showed up. The cop never breathalyzed me, so therefore he provided no proof that I was drinking under the age of 18. My boyfriend tried to defend me, naturally, since it was his drink. Another officer would not let my boyfriend near me or the officer I was dealing with. When he asked a simple question: "What's going on?" The other officer took him away. When i was in the backseat of the cruiser my boyfriend tried to bring me my jacket, because i was shivering. The other cop screamed at him to stay back from the cruiser (he was still on the sidewalk of the opposite side of the street) so my boyfriend handed the jacket to the cop. I watched as the cop threw my jacket on the ground, and hand-cuffed my boyfriend and put him in another cruiser. My boyfriend stayed the night in jail. I would like to see the records that explain the reason he was put in jail for the night, because he most definately did not break any law, nor did I. That is just one of a few unfair run-ins with Police, and I beleive I have fair reasoning for dislking them. And no, if i ever was ever involved in any sort of emergency or crisis, I would most definitely not change my feelings toward cops. I don't trust them. I likely never will, at least not in this town>

I am like most people I don't hate the police, but from experience I know there are bad ones. Like the day that I was going 3 miles over the speed limit in the right hand lane and everyone else was flying by me and the cop pulls me over and lectures me for speeding. To top it all off I know that at least two cars that went past me were going at least 5 miles over the speed limit because they were both related to me and were laughing cuz I got pulled over for speeding. Or the numerous times I watch them put on their lights to go through a red light and then turn into the fast food restaurant down the road, or the many times they are talking on their personal cell phones. I believe their job is to uphold the law not break it just because they can.

too many officers now believe that a gun and a badge make them above the law. a law they have sworn to both uphold and honor. as long as they are allowed to have that type of attitude and thought process, they will continue to abuse the power we have given them. we the people are the ultimate authority in America. if you police are doing something wrong, tape them, intervene do what is right as a citizen. if you allow them to take your rights and liberties away...soon you will have none.
we can expect them to be held accountable ONLY when we hold them accountable. contact your local internal affairs and ask for all information about the cops in your area. hold them to a higher standard, if they have been convicted of crimes you feel should disqualify them for service, write the chief of police, Sheriff, your states governing agency whoever you need to contact to have them removed. write your police governing body and request more stringent qualifications for all officers.

I don't hate the police but I very often mistrust their motives and their own lawfullness. When they ceased being peace officers and started being law enforcement officers, they changed from friend of the citizen to friend of the government and this has just caught up with them.

The only reason i hate cops is cause i have seen way to many in coffee shops drinking coffee and eating their doughnuts instead of being out there doing there job. What are the tax payers paying taxes for? For the cops to just stand around and drink their coffee and eat their doughnuts.
I myself personally dont think cops should get the pay that they get cause they are NOT really out there doing their jobs.

Of course it is necessary that we have police otherwise there would be chaos and tremendous criminal activity. However, I believe police have been gradually given entirely too much power while citizens rights have been gradually lowered to almost none.Police no longer serve and protect. They harrass and violate.Yes, there are some good some bad but in my county I can't name one that I would consider "good".And I can name numerous who I know for a fact are "dirty" cops. One State trooper routinely plants drugs on people. And many county and city cops are privy to his actions and condone and or participate in it as well. The chief Investigator has a history of buying, using and selling drugs and even having drug cooks make drugs for him and his wife. Our chief of Police threw my complaint of assault by two officers in the trash and when I told him he wasn't going to get by with it he laughed and said "who are you going to call?We are the police" Our District Judge has run unopposed for more years than I can remember cause people think he's tough on crime as he refuses to grant any motions to suppress evidence illegally obtained or dismiss any cases due to police misconduct. Therein lies the responsibility for all the corrupt cops in our county. They are allowed to run amok without any concern for reprocussions as the law protects offficers from almost any civil actions and they can act as recklessly and maliciously as they please without concern their cases will be thrown out.Women dare not call for help when their old man beats them as many of our cops abuse their own wives and more often than not, they arrest the women who call for their help. I went to jail after I called 911 when my ex husband beat me to a pulp and tried to kill me. Broke three of my ribs gave me a concussion, and blackened both my eyes and beat my face till I was hardly recognizeable. Unbenounced to myself or them my ex husband had a voice activated tape recorder hidden in my home and II had them all on tape while I was being treated at the hospital saying I quote"She probably made this whole thing up. You know if you look around it looks like a fight took place all the chairs are overturned but if you'll notice nothing is broken. She probably done this all herself" and "you know I don't see any signs he was even here, Wouldn't there be tracks in the driveway?"(I have a concrete driveway).Quite an imagination I have huh? Yeah, I have to say I hate police. At least the ones in my county. Nothing worse than a dirty cop. And I wonder how many innocent people are sitting in jail right now because of Officer P. planting evidence on them? And oh yes, I have reported them to the FBI and so have numerous other people. What good does it do to report a cop to another cop? We definitely need some changes in our entire judicial system.

I don't hate the police; I know there are some good and some bad-- but I understand why a lot of people dislike them so much. Several of my friends have been wronged and betrayed by officers, so I think they earned their reputation honest.

I hated police for the longest time. Mostly because from a young age I was accustomed to them knocking at my front door at all hours of the day/night. My oldest brother was the poster child for the good suburban kid turned criminal. So for many years I resented cops for taking my brother away. Eventually that resentment turned into fear, because quite frankly I was a goody-two-shoes growing up. I was always so afraid of getting in trouble, even though I knew I would never break the law. Anyways, I felt this way all the way up until only six months ago. I'm in college now and I met a police officer (in a class of mine) who spent a long time telling me stories of friends and relatives of his who lost their lives in the line of duty. And he explained what police officers really go through and why they do what they do. We talked for hours about this, and at the end my opinion of cops was completely different. I no long hate or fear them, but instead completely respect them. Now I'm always the one trying to remind my friends, who still have some issues, that they are really good people and we should be thankful for what they do.

I distrust the police. I have only been stopped twice for tickets and never had to pay any in court. *I* have never been arrested in my life so I can't be grouped with the thugs.

My reasons are that Internal Affairs hides data on corruption and citizen complaints.
The blue code of silence hides abuse of power and violations of civil rights.
Their arrogance calling for "noble servants willing to die for us" is a fable. Their job is not even considered among the most dangerous http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/Careers/01/08/cb.danger/index.html
All the "intense psychological testing" produce this:
http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?s=7791171
http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?s=7591847
And fresh from the day...
http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=7870456
http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?s=7835026

And the worst reason for my distrust and despise is that EACH DAY we see a new video of yet another one abusing power and authority.

We have no "if you don't like cops don't call us" choice. It is a legislative requirement to call them in order to being formal crime inquiries. That is no excuse for them to abuse our rights and treat citizens like they do. But if we allow this to continue, we only got ourselves to blame for it.

Cops know most people don't like them. But they can't find another job that pays as well with all the nice benefits, so they stay. Next time they call themselves poor and unfairly unappreciated, challenge them to switch careers.

Please email me the link to the study you read. I'd be interested to read it.

If you are asking why people hate the police you can't expect the answers to support or negate the statement in your question. If you were really interested in seeing if the response supported what you read you should have asked "do you hate the police?".

Alyssa
i don't hate them, and i do respect what they do and i know there are a few good cops out there but i have seen few that aren't so great, great like when my brother gets pulled over and treated like a criminal, not because he is doing anything worng but because he is brown with a shaved head and driving in a 2 year old car. or when we call them for help when we were robbed, it takes them 30 to 40 mintes for them to get there ( i have actuly timed it) i alos hate it when they treat my parents like idots because they speak with an accent. or treat me like i was a suspect when we called them for help in the first place. so yhea i have some resentment torwrds them. but i learned that not all cops are like that. i live in the los angeles county and have to call the city cops only to be told that i have to call the lapd, because even though they are stationed 5 mintes from my house we don't fall in there section. and then call lapd only to have to wait 20 minutes for them to deciced if we fall in there section. so i'm actuly surprised at the 50 % of rateing

Most people do not like to have contact with the police because it usually means that they have to pay some fine! They however love the police when they need them!

I hate the Fort Worth police!
Stereotypes play an essential role in 90% of the traffic stops and arrest. Example- I'm from the rough side of town, but i do have friends that are from the better off side of town. I'm black, they're white. Why everytime they come to visit me they have to be buying dope. They often get pulled over cause they're in new cars on the drug infested side of town. I get pulled over out by thier house for being black in a white neighborhood. They dont give a reason for stopping me, they do always have a dog with them though.
Its a bad idea to ride around with more than 2 young black males in a car, you will get stopped. If i'm with a white friend i let them drive, cause the police on the freeway wont bother them. Unless they're just being reckless. One night a buddy of mines was just testing his boundries, we passed 3 police going over 80 mph, no one stopped him. I know bettter i wont even test that.
I have had raicist incidents with Texas State Troopers too.

fist off...
"In a democratic country like India ,no need of such a worry "

thats just retarded....
"There are around 40 million illegal small arms in India out of approximately 75 million in worldwide circulation"

"India is the world's largest producer of licit opium"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_India

dumba$$

second off: people don't like cops because they don't realize what a cop's day is like...the type of cop nobody likes are the ones that write tickets, break-up underage parties, and do their JOB. Cops write tickets to idiots who haul balls down the highway; cops arrest dope dealers; cops arest DRUNK DRIVERS!!!

People...they do their job. Cops do what the lawbook tells them to do. ENFORCE the laws that they are suppose enforce. Stop Hating

edit: Ms. Lane, to clear up the myth for you and everyone else... police do not have quotas.. I REPEAT police do not have quotas. they aren't there to f*** with people. merely to do their job and get home the way they came to work.. alive. Yes they are looking for everything they can get because thats what they are supposed to do. Do you know how many drunk drivers we get in per night? Per week? WAY TOO MANY!! Its because of these people that cops bust parties, and follow suspicious (all) drivers. TO stop them from hurting or KILLING somebody's sister, brother, mother, father, son, daughter, etc. You get what i am saying?? They risk their lives each and everyday/night to maybe save yours or that of someone you love's life someday.

That's my .10 cents.
