I need to know how to report a crime without getting in trouble...?

I know more then I should about some stuff someone I know has done I cant say who but I know there were involved in a drive by shooting about 9 years ago and shot 2 young teen boys and also one other thing that I can not go into detail about that happened a little over a year and a half to 2 years ago...if the person that told me finds out I am saying anything I or they could get hurt because of it I dont know who to talk to because i know if i say who and they find out that this person told me they will go after them and poss me...what do I do?

Ok the 2 year old one I found out like 2 or 3 months ago and there is poss to high poss that there was someone killed...and the shooting I just found out about last night.

If there was someone killed in the 9 year old case it is still an open and prosecutable case.
If no one was seriously injured the case is over as far as the law is concerned passed the statute of limitations.

The 2 year old case may or may not be prosecutable dependiong on if it was a felony or not.

You can contact the detective division in the town the shooting happened. You can be anonymous. It may take them some time to find the paper work but they will. A detective is already assigned of if retired a new on will be assigned. They will take your information and they will tell you ahead of time, if you ask, if it can be kept secret, even if the case goes to trial.

Tell a priest or pastor, someone that you can tell a confession to that can't repeat certain things back and then have them to report the crime or better yet send an anomoyous letter. Apparently you have been carry this weight long enough, and its eating away at your very soul, it has you.........get it off of you.

uhh.. if it's been that long the investigation might be closed
so nothing might be done about it.. you should've decided
to say something a long time ago.. and im sorry to say..
but there is no garunteed way to make sure no one knows
that you told.. but if you really wanna do the right thing then
go to the police station.. make sure he's taken into custody..
but remember the person that told you told you in confidence..
do you really wanna put your's and their life in danger?..

Go to http://www.911.com/ You can report any crime from any year ago as long as you have the information about it. And you have the option of being contacted about the matter or not. Hopefully you will make the choice to do the right thing. I know you want to protect your friend, and I would probably do the same thing, but something that serious should be dealt with. If not go straight to your parents, that's exactly what I would do.

I would say your best bet is to send the tip in anonymously. There is more than likely a police or law enforcement tip line in which you can give all the information that you no without giving your name or identity. Something like a crime stoppers hot line. A quick web search will give you the website and info for this type of hot line. The local authorities should also be able to protect you if you come forward with such information and wish to remain anonymous.

These are the actions I would take and obviously you may not believe me to be correct, act on your own good judgment, after all I am just some dude on the internet.
