As far as the insurance companies are concerned they will class it as 'knock for knock, ie they will share the total costs between them and you will both loose your no claims discount.

If you had a green light then you had the right of way so the other driver is to blame because he should have given way, assuming he had a green light also.

A court would decide in your favour, but in the end you are probably best to put it down as one of life's unjust experiences as it might not be worth taking the risk and involving yourself in more expense.

Not a lot of information but I think I get the idea....
If the oncoming car has crossed your path, across the flow of traffic then you have right of way. If both lights are on green, he has to wait until safe enough to move into the flow of oncoming traffic.

If you were going straight on , he should have given way to you , you can't cross some ones path like that and get away with it no matter how fast you left the lights.Edit. I am assuming you are driving in the UK

If there was no filter light and he turned into the traffic then the fault would be his.

A green light means go if it is safe to do so it obviously wasn't so you are to blame but the same applies to the other driver so there is equal blame.You both should have taken reasonable care and be in a position to stop if necessary and proceed when the road was clear regardless of the lights.

It's you word against his unless you have a witness. Always, always wait a few seconds after the light turns green before you start. There are many drivers who disobey the yellow and red lights. It is fortunate you were not injured.

This question can't be answered unless the country where the accident happened is named. In the UK and Ireland we drive on the left, the steering wheel is on the right hand side in the car. In this case assuming there was no right filter light for the other driver, even if you both started off rather quickly, but provided both drivers had green lights without filters, the other driver cut across in front of you and is to blame.
In countries having driving on the right, one or both of you must have been on the wrong side of the road for this to happen.

If the oncoming car (facing you) turns right, it is turning away from you. So I'm assuming the oncoming car made a left turn in front of you. Needless to say, most insurance companies find both drivers at fault in an intersection accident UNLESS you have a witness willing to testify that the other guy was wrong and caused the accident.....

the lights were on green for you? and him? was it a filter light for him. i would think you were in the right as you probably had the right of way over him. or did you both go on amber?

Your story does not make any since! YOU indicated "I pulled away from traffic lights quickly". Therefore, that tells me that your light was not green and the other driver had the green light. There is no way that you both had a green light!

Anyways, it appears you are at fault!
