First off, get the whole story from your boyfriend. Secondly, if he's been charged with burglary, get a public defender, like yesterday. I spent almost 25 years with criminals and cops. Snitches are treated like two dollar whor---s by the police and worse than that in prison. If his testimony is coerced and he does not testify truthfully, then he's in more trouble and the gang member might get off.

How much of this information do you have first hand and how much is through your boyfriend? This sounds like it has a little bit of a dramatic spin on it. Maybe your boyfriend is in some legitimate trouble with the police and he doesn't want to share those details with you.

Police don't let people work off burglary charges. They do let people work off drug related charges for bigger drug fish though. Maybe it is something like that.

Talk with an civil defense attorney, as it is unlawfull to blackmail or force a person to do this, it is also unlawful to put an civillian life in harms way. Even if your BF is guilty, he still has rights and the police have an oath to protect and to serve. I would definately speak with a criminal and or a civil defense Attorney.

Best advice I can give you. Go to a local attorneys office. Hire an criminal attorney. I do not think that what this detective is doing will slide with any public deffender. I would also ask the local attorney general and put this dective up there with what he told you.l So far as I can tell he is frightening you and scaring you and pushing you into something that you have nothing to do with. Do not give in> Stay strong.

How old are you and how old is your b'friend? If you are underage do you have parents?
Might be a good idea to ask for their help..or perhaps see a criminal lawyer.
If all else fails, see a Priest.

Your boyfriend needs to wear a wire and record the detective saying all of this crap. Take it to the press, they are always good for a dirty deal. Then sue the hell out of the city in which this guy works and take his job. OR you could help out of the kindness of your heart and get the scum off of the streets.

File a complaint on the detective with internal affairs, if your boyfriend has no burglary charge or warrant the detective can't just make one up and the detecive can be charged with the intimidation or coercion, and fired from the department.

Get proof of the conversation about the set up and take it to the Lawyers Office or D.A.'s Office to keep yourself clear of charges. Or try to negotiate with the officer to see if there is something else you can do besides incriminate yourself.

Get the cop on tape Wear a wire and then make copies of it a lot of them and distribute it through friends and family

Gigi and Trout are right. If your boyfriend wears a wire, there will be a job for an American transcriptionist typing out the evidence. Since Americans do not know how to falsify things (and do not know who the S>E> are) the beforementioned transcripts are considered a reliable source of evidence, especially when the Patriot Act is in effect.

Most detectives aren't going to go "Hey, he looks like a crip I think I'll use him" so I think you are probably full of crap. A CI is seldom an innocent bystander and as you said your boyfriend either plays ball or makes bail. Try not to BS so much next time, leaving out the info, like your bf is a crook and deserves to be in jail.
