Don't be scared about it. It happens a lot. Did your vehicle receive damage? You might want to report it to your insurance. Nobody goes to jail for an accident as long as they do the right thing and report it. If you just drove away don't panic. simply call the local sheriff's office of the county and let them know where it happened. they can send someone out to take a report and this is what you give your insurance. As long as the only damage is the deer and your vehicle, there won't even be a citation. Just a report. |

Did you violate the deers human rights? was the deer a minority? was the deer gay? was the deer an "undocumented alien" ? if none of these apply then you have nothing to worry about. |

well not unless you ran over the deer in a peting zoo.
It was an accident and normally considered the deer fault.
You are to call the authorities when it happens so they can be sure to put the deer down if it is in pain. |

The only time I have ever heard of anyone in trouble for hitting a deer, was when a woman here hit a large one and drove away with it lying in the middle of the road. It caused a very serious accident between two vehicles coming towards each other that both swerved to avoid it. One person rolled his SUV and broke his neck. |

All you have to do is call the wildlife agency in your area, and if it did any property damage to your vehicle make a report for your insurance company. |

No you're not going to go to jail. The question is did the deer die or run off? Either way you should have reported it but there are no laws pertaining to leaving the scene. In Connecticut where I work if you report it there is a form that the police fill out (deer kill form that goes to the State) and you can take the deer if you are so inclined. |

No. My understanding is that you're supposed to call your state's Department of Natural Resources and let them know...you may get to keep the deer. |

No, but you should report it to your local game wardon to be removed if it is dead. |

No, I've run over a deer before.
If it's accidental, then no.
If you hit a human, yes, a deer is like hitting or running into a small tree. Nothing happens to you legally, but the deer or whatever...is usually dead or injured.
Overall, no you will not go to jail, it will just be a thorn in the side of road workers or cleanup crews. |
