Probably neither, there are probably another million or so driving whilst banned or w/out a license.
With the use of speed cameras to tax motorists, in some cases for going a mile or two per hour over a 30mph speed limit first imposed 40 years ago, it is almost inevitable that everyone gets caught at some time. The problem is that their use, combined with the reduction in trafic control vehicles actually encourages people to avoid registering, taxing and insuring their cars with the odds in their favour that they won't ever get caught. |

you know that is so true, my son has already got 6 points all cos of speeding ( 32mph in 30mph zone), ye its his fault no doubt, but its so easy getting points these days, maybe the drivers dont realise how serious this is, |

On Sky news last week they were reporting that 100,000's of drivers were 3 points away, yet drivers still ignore the speeding signs, cameras and the use of mobile phones whilst driving. |

You read it wrong!
there are 3 drivers who are a million points away from being banned |

I heard the same thing.
Take it from me, an easy way to avoid losing your licence is to not get the points in the first place and that can be easily avoided by not breaking the law.
I got 3 points in 1999, I've driven thousands of miles since then and not got any more.
Speed cameras are a good idea in certain locations, a bad idea in others. One good idea however is the new law on mobile phone use whilst driving and the more idiots who continue to do that, the more will lose their licences. Then the rest of us will be a lot safer from people who think a phone call is more important than someones life that might be ended from their stupidity. |

So that equates (possibly) to about a billion pounds raised from speeding (sorry, safety) camera stealth tax. Are the roads safer? |

Might be a good thing, free up the roads! |

With regards to this question the point of the topic is not about speed cameras.
It is implying that with the recent changes in law regarding mobile phones, £60 fine and now 3 points, the likelyhood is that more people will find themselves being banned.
This due to the crackdown by most forces on drivers who continue to use their phones which is still a major problem, just look to see how many people still do it when your next driving. |

to all of you that complain about speed cameras..... dont speed and they are not a problem are they? i'm sorry but the most pathetic arguements i ever hear come from people complaining about speed cameras.
'oh there just profitering and trying to catch you out'. how the hell could a camera catch you out if your not speeding. and the whole 'it was just a lapse of concentration... everyone does it'. my reply: yeah they do... hence the crazy number of accidents. if you can't concentrate.... dont drive a massive metal killing machine around then!
do you know how most speed cameras get placed? if a section of road has three fatals in a certain time period one automatically goes up... and guess what? they work... people slow down (funnily enough). ITS NOT YOUR RIGHT TO DRIVE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT PEOPLE. go tell your whiny arguements to someone who lost a loved one due to dangerous driving.
driving standards are low, too many people are either incompetant or selfish.
did you know a fatal road accident in britain costs the tax payer 1 million pounds? how's that for where your taxes go? some stupid idiot thinking he can just make it, or he can just bully someone out the way, or just not paying enough attention... and the cost is irreparable.
i can believe that many people have so many points. and any of you that make these silly arguements defending yourself for having so many points... should go away and put all that effort into driving better rather than wasting your time spouting nonsense. i have no sympathy for you. |

I think its the fact that there are so many speed cameras around now, and many of them will result in you getting points even if you were doing 43 in a 40 zone etc. Anyone could be that little over the limit if they were just not concentrating for a couple of mins - I don't think it's wanton lawbreaking as such. |

it's simple economics silly... Why write 1 or 2 speeding tickets a month for about say...$300 when you can write 1 No DL or insurance for about $1000. |
