I received a ticket yet the cop told me to plead not guilty?

Oook, I've never received a ticket before until a few days ago. It's $102.00 and it was for 'driving on the other side of the road' because whilst merging into my left turn lane I cut over the other sides right lane half way.

Anyhoo, so the cop gives me a ticket YET he tells me to call some number & to plead 'not guilty.' He said it takes five minutes...and he would convince the judge not to give me points.

I am so confused...than why would you give me a ticket yet tell me to plead not guilty & say at court you'll make sure I don't get the points?

So, anyone have any ideas the cop would tell me to do this yet still give me the fined ticket?

Some cops are pretty righteous folk, they're cool. They may have to give you a ticket, but that doesn't mean he can't give you a pointer or two to avoid points.

You're not the only one to be given a break by the cops, it's happened to me as well.

This is not a joke. Some police officers write these tickets and tell you to go to court so they can show up for the overtime. It's extra money in their pocket for a few minutes "work". They are there for 5 minutes but get paid for a minimum of 2 to 3 hours of overtime. It's sad, but I know alot of officers that do this sort of thing.

To be honest, it's just a nice way to let you know that their doing their job and it's going to cost you ! Would you have felt better when he/she handed you the citation and said nothing? Some cops like to do their job and let the citation do the talking for them. Not that he/she is being an as* about it but what speaks louder? Hitting the wallet or telling you to slow down with a warning. The citation might save your or someone else's life with the first stop for speeding! Drive safe, do the speed limit.

by law he has to but he was being nice to you and telling you how to deal with the ticket.

Because it is his job to tell you that you did this. But if you are young and this is your first offence you will probably be able to put it off to a tiny charge with no points. If anyone saw you and reports to the police station he can get in trouble for not telling you; but he obviously thinks you are not a regular offender; or this is common in this area...and you will probably get away with it - or get a small fine. Whereas they don't have a lot of choice what they charge you with as all their records are checked.

Good Luck. I have never gotten out of a traffic ticket by pleading not guilty. The judge is always with the cop.

take it to the box, get some boxing gloves and get it on. listen the cop is called a professional witness however his testimony caznnot carry more weight than an average person in court, hmm kinda worthless title huh. now if you can argue that you did it for safety and the cop couldnt see that car that you swerved to miss, then a jury cant convict.
