I sent my boyfriend a letter in prison - and they called him to the office why?

Hello Jessica. If it helps at all, all incoming mail is opened and inspected for contraband and/or gang related writing and signs. The mail is not "read", but scanned and then passed on to the inmate.

There could have been a number of reasons your letter may have been contrabanded. ( If he was called to the office, your letter was considered contraband and he was given a notice that it wasn't going to be given to him).

If you included some little cutsey pie drawings or favorite/personal diagrams, they would send up a warning flag of some new "gang" symbol. The general rule is when in doubt, contraband. All letters must be written in plain English. Any foreign writing or any writing that cannot be clearly understood is also grounds for contraband. If you included any type of stamp or sticker on the letter face, it is grounds for contraband ( microdots of LSD have been found on the back side of stickers sent inside the wire.)

Think back to what you sent and you might be able to determine what caused this. Some of the most innocent actions have been used to smuggle all kinds of illegal items or messages inside the wire, so everything is suspect when it is not completely "normal".

If it helps at all, unless you discussed escape plans in your letter, your boyfriend is not in trouble. He was just given notice of a letter that would not be allowed to be given to him.

err you guys don't judge before you know any thing you have no idea why hes in prison so shut it

depending on what you put in the letter they have to check stuff and what not best thing to do in future keep ya letters short and simple and any thing personal keep till you visit ok hun

it could be any number of reasons..did you put you address on the letter.?

you said you boyfriend asked if you sent him a letter.. most prison has a rule that you have to have a return address on the letter.. maybe that is why they talked to him about it..

if he is in trouble while he is there they can hold his mail until he acts better..

Well, what did they tell him when he went to the office? They had to have asked or given some information as to why he got called in. No telling...but prison life is all about monitoring. ?

just a helpful tip to help you live a wonderful life, here you go, ready? DON'T date a guy in prison OK? There are thousands of great guys NOT in prison right now, find one and save your future kids some heartache and a broken life.

Because there are strict rules when you write a low-life who is in prison. You might as well get used to that, if you insist on stooping that low.

yeah, maybe lisa h is right. after all, they do put people in prison for being upstanding citizens and not breaking any laws, right? Or maybe she's in love with a jailbird too.
