I want to buy a .32 and I'm in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas area...?

What precisely do I need to do? Are there a lot of government forms to fill out? (I have never been arrested for anything, much less convicted of anything...I have no police record) And would Wal-Mart be the "sole" place that I can buy a .32?

Any reliable information supplied would be gratefully appreciated.

Milcollector: Because this isn't the safest area of the planet to live in...and I've handled guns before, and have been to the firing range here in Texas many times. A .32 is the most I can handle w/a nearly perfect accuracy :))

Go to the gun shop & fill out the paperwork there. They'll call it in to NICS & you'll either be approved, denied, or be put on hold.

Should be as simple as going to the gun shop and filling out the NICS paperwork. Takes 5 minutes.

Curious, why do you want a .32.

From what you are saying the only thing that may be a restriction would be you age.

But there should be all sorts of places that you can go to purchase a hand gun. Wal-Mart would have been the last place I would have thought of when shopping for a firearm. Don't they have a gun store in town? Maybe you should take a little drive to one of the larger neighboring towns. Also check to find out when they may be having a gun show in your area. If you don't get in a big hurry you can most likely find some good deals.

I guarantee that there is at least one form to fill out, (ATF Form 4473)

4473 Assists the dealer in completeing a federal background check to make sure you aren't a felon. Asks for name, DOB, Address, multiple questions, everything that you would expect on a government form. Some people think that by filling this form out, that they are registering their firearm, this form sits at the dealers store until he goes out of business, then it gets shipped to ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms).

Procedures vary from state to state, so that is just the basics.
