Maximum sentence is 4 years but I doubt you will get that if this is your first offence.

At this point and time courts are reacting to anyone carrying an offensive weapon in a strict way because of all the knife crime, so although you are 18 and its your first offence you will need to come up with a good reason for the knife and not the " to defend myself" because that will suggest to the court youÂ´d be prepared to use it. I would seriously try to convince the court that it was a stupid thing to do, your sorry for having done it etc, as a first offence probably a combination order, which is probation with x amount of hours doing community service, i would not be tempted to carry a knife again as the next time you will do prison time, trust me you donÂ´t want to be going down that road.

1 First of all how did the police find the knife what did you do for them to search?
2 Second illegal search seizure?
3 Third coppers are just waiting to mess with youngsters because they're easy prey and you don't know jack about your rights an law.
4 Forth and final get a lawyer male preferable who rep you and you will get probation and won't go on your record after a year petition to quash.
I am 35 and would not even bother me for a ticket because of the troubles.

Obviously with the current focus on knife crime especially in London the court are not going to be soft on you but I doubt you will get a custodial sentence if it is a first offence.

I had no idea it was illegal to carry knives in London...good to know.

Firstly, tell the truth and be frank. Never deny or try to twist words in court, it will only get you in deeper trouble. Tell them you have learned your lesson and will avoid doing it in the future. Not really much there more than that.

I'm not a law-enforcement officer in Britain, but if you have it, you will probably get sentenced to probation.
