I was convicted of an unclassified (class D) misdemeanor, how hard will it be to become a state trooper?

I was convicted of this class d misdemeanor *unclassified* about a year ago when I was 18. But I am a very smart 19 year old male whole attends DSU with a 3.8 overall GPA. I wanted to be an attorney or state police officer but I am now not too sure on how difficult that will be for me with this conviction on my record. I hope to get it expunged soon. PLEASE HELP

I'm not sure but I don't think that a misdemeanor will effect your chances of becoming a cop if you stay out of trouble for the next few years or so. You're still young and won't apply for another 2 years or so, so I wouldn't sweat it. And if your GPA is what you say it is than you can just say I was young and stupid. I would recommend though you doing volunteer work either through school, Church, or a club. That would really look good on your application and prove that the misdemeanor was a one time event. Again I'm just speculating. Now as an employee of a federal law enforcement agency I can tell you that a misdemeanor would ruin any shot to work for us one day. You can't have anything on your record if you want to be a FED that includes working for the U.S. Attorney's office.

If I'm not mistaken misdemeanors don't really affect any type of job career. And I know after a number of years without trouble it gets erased, but I'm not to sure on the time for it.

Ironically, you can probably become a lawyer, but you would probably not be able to become a state police officer.

Get it expunged as you said above. I would! Good Luck to you.

Your screwed. You can not have your record expunged from the State Troopers.
