I have been a police officer for 11 years. My life and personal experience is this.
(1) Somebody told you to report the car stolen in the earlier answers. Talk about trying to dig a deeper hole! Once the officer has seen you driving the car (which it sounds like he did) making a false report of vehicle theft will be easy to prove and will only get you in more trouble.
(2) It is unlikely that the police will come and get you if they have not already. It is more likely they will just prepare a report, forward it throuigh the courts and obtain a warrant for your arrest. Then, the police will find you when they find you. They may come to your house looking and they may just wait until you get picked up later down the line.
Either way, the best thing to do is turn yourself in, say you screwed up and get on with life. At least that way, if you do go to jail, you go on your terms rather than waiting until you get pulled over at 3 in the morning on the way to Taco Bell and find yourself in jail, your car impounded, etc. |

It is strange that they didn't chase you when it happened. You should go to the police and tell them what happend and that you drove away because you didn't feel safe getting out of your car. |

Yes, they will come and get you. I am surprised that they did not pursue you. It does not matter what county you are in, you still have to obey a police officer. If you are in another state and they ask you to do something, just because you cross state lines does not mean you can get away scott free! This is easy to say, but hard to do, maybe call that PD and see if they issued a warrant for you so it does not come back to haunt you later. |

Go down to your police station and tell them what happened - plead that you were frightened because of the area you were in - and pray you don't get more trouble. If the officer was doing his job - they have your plate number......good luck |

Most Officers call in your license plate when initiating a traffic stop which means they have a way of tracking you down. If you didn't do anything wrong, why did you drive away? You have the right to refuse a search, if fact you don't have to talk to an Officer at all, just supply him with the documents he asks for. Don't open you mouth or say a word. But being polite and answering questions gets you a lot farther. What were you doing in a known drug area 2 counties from where you live to begin with? Sounds like there is more to your story. |

There is probably a warrant out for your arrest...depends on your state laws. You'll have a charge for running from the police, if I'm not mistaken that's a felony charge, but again depends on the laws where you live. Felony charges are what put people in prison. Plus, they'll probably tack on as many things as they can, just to teach you a lesson.....why in the heck did you run? |

A no-turn signal does not mean they can search your car unless they had probable cause to arrest you for something else. If they arrested you, then they can search the car incident to the arrest. (Obviously in this case, you were not arrested.) A police officer can ask you to step out of the car if he feels his safety might be compromised (i.e., you might reach for a weapon). Leaving the scene of a stop was a bad idea, and they might issue a warrant for your arrest. |

If the police initiate a stop on public property for a traffic violation and you speed off and they dont catch you.......They WILL be coming to wherever the vehicle is registered to, most likely your house. Now your civil traffic violation has turned into a felony fleeing charge (depending on your local state laws). |

You can be arrested. A warrant might be issued already. Most likely you will be stopped in the dead of the night on a Friday on a warrant that will require you to meet with the judge in person. You will sit in a dank cell over the weekend with several hundred large dudes whose only quest in life is to kick you butt an use your butt for target practice. Picking up the soap or not will not be an issue - they will assist you in bending over and sticking it to you. It might hurt, it might not depending on your background.

they didnt chase after you?? thats weird. Maybe they were done with you. If they had your information already and you refused to let them search your car, they may show up on your door step with a warrant to search it.. If you have anything you better get rid of it.. |

insane... i dont think that unless they had probable casue that they could try to search your car, I'd one, get a damn good lawyer and two, turn yourself in. Waiting will only make the punishment worse. |

ummm are you kidding? DO you not pay attention to anything that you hear on the news...or even see in the movies for godsakes? Yeah they'll come and get you if they feel they need to. Look for a warrant or something coming... I can't see a cop pulling someone over and watch them drive away and say to themselves..."Gee, that person must be a law abiding citizen...I'm sure they don't have anything to hide....theres' no reason why I should go after them." Come on now...are we really that nieve? WHy would you drive away in the first place? DOes ANYBODY respect law enforcement anymore?!?! Is it really that hard to play by the rules? I'm not a goody 2 shoes but I respect the law.ANd respect the people who are trying to uphold it. |

Good chance. You don't have much left in the way of rights when you're on the road. Cops apparently have the right to "pat down" the interior of your car (driver's compartment, glove box, and underneath the seats) if they suspect that you're armed (and you haven't told them so). I know of no searches that have not been held up in the courts. They apparently can legally search closed containers in your car, and don't need a warrant to fully search your car if they have probable cause.
I am sure they got your license plate number. If they don't physically come get you, a warrant will be placed for your arrest. They will get you sooner or later if they want to. You look guilty when you run. |

Most cop cars nowadays have cameras, so they probably have your license on tape.
Odd that they would pull you over for not using your turn signal. That's really reaching for them. I've seen so many drivers (*ahem* my dad *ahem*) not use their turn signals and get away with it. |

um if you were parked in front of the police dash cam and it recorded your actions, maybe, consider these things
1. is this a large county? if so they may not waste the man power to persue it
2. Were you chased? Did you loose them or did the officer just call it in?
3. Do you, or more importantly, the person that the car tags are registered to, have a criminal background? If not then you may not be a big enough concern to them, if so then they may want you back in the system.
4. Keep in mind that the officer knows that if you had anything on you then you have dumped it by now and he would not be able to get you on a possesion charge, evading he could though, it really just comes down to if the officer wants to press the issue
