Taser International does not require you to actually take a tasing in order to be certified. But it does recommend it. They have a study that shows that a person who has been exposed to the effects is less likely to use it on someone else. Taser International has a set course for training, regardless of where you receive your training it is the same, 8 hours, and a yearly qualification.
Different police departments can regulate rules for their officers that they must be exposed, but that varies from department to department.
It hurts bad, it is like a static electric shock that goes through your whole body and last for up to 5 seconds. Had it a couple of times, don't want it again. |

I have heard that it's part of the training. I think it's a good idea - you should know what the thing is capable of doing firsthand. |

Yes you do, its a training course that varies in legnth from department to department, part of the training is defending the weapon in its holster, part of it is actually using the weapon effectively and the last part of it is learning all the components and gadgets associated with it and the last part of training is actually being hit with the taser for 5 seconds. It hurts pretty bad, my class was small but we all kinda screemed in one way or another (good way to be called a lot of names in the law enforcement community). Trust me you dont want to be on the other end of a taser. |
