There are actually 2 questions you're asking.
Is it legal?
Yes it is legal to lend your car to someone else who doesn't have insurance.
The second question is, will your policy cover an accident if they are driving?
Under 98,99% of all polices, the insurance follows the car. However if the other driver is a frequent user, the policy requires that they be listed as an additional driver. However there really isn't any way for the insurance company to know this, its up to you to tell them.
Also, if they get into an accident and are at fault, your rates go up when the policy gets renewed in 6 months. One more note, many polices don't cover loss when the driver is DUI or in the commission of certain crimes, so you would be responsible in those cases. |

Depends on your insurance cover - always best to check with your insurer if you're covered for another driver. I know in my policy my car is covered if someone else drives it (with my permission) but I can't have anybody under 25 drive. (Costs more for that.) |

They have to be on your insurance policy to be covered. Otherwise you are left responsible for anything that may happen. |
