Ok im 18, been out of school a while, about to attend tafe (hopefully).
After I finished school and got rejected from university I began a slow downward spiral of feeling terrible.
After being confronted by my parents I admitted some things that have been bringing me down.
They suggested seeing my local GP and talking about possible mental health plans.
I know I should have don’t this a long time ago but I want to be a police officer in the nsw police force some time in the next few years.
Im worried they’ll find out I received counselling about my personal issues and choose me as unfit to become an officer.
I have not been diagnosed with anything…yet.
I will admit I have had suicidal thoughts and on one occasion hurt myself.
What I want to know is IF I end up being diagnosed with depression will it affect my career choice.
If I just talk to the therapist and am NOT diagnosed with anything how will this affect it all.
And finally if for any reason they put me on anti depressants will that affect my career choice?
During my police admissions tests can they pry into my medical records and see these possible pieces of information?
This has been really worrying me, im starting to think I shuda kept my mouth shut and dealt with it, I don’t want anything to hurt my chances of a future career as a police officer….

Stop your worry thats the first step then see your therapist. I feel you will find that during your interviews re the police it will not go against you to have been seeking an opinion on are you suitable to become a police force member. so treat it like it is ~~. |

You did the right thing. Police officers get depressed too. It isn't a sin or a sign of instability. You had the guts and sense to deal with it head on. |

i dont think that it will hurt your chances, they cant just not hire you for that. im pretty sure that they can get in legal trouble for that |

I will be getting involved in law enforcement soon for a police officer position. I think you are doign the right thing by trying to get the help you need. It shows good judement on your part. |
