Never pull a gun unless you are going to USE it. They can check the bullet angles in a corpse so it looks much better if a group of shots are fired in sequece while STANDING. Don't shoot someone who is "down" it looks BAD and is very hard to ARGUE in court.

Get your story straight. Buzz words like "He ATTACKED me. I had to make him stop. He said he would kill me..." are good. You can call the local cops and ask the Neighborhood Watch facilitator when it's legal to shoot an ATTACKER in your home.

A knife from your kitchen in his dead hand would probably bolster your story. The registration issues would be secondary to your defense of your LIFE...

loubean hit it right on the money. You have the right to protect your life and propery. However, you have to show that you truly believed you life was in danger at the time. In otherwords, if you pull out the gun and the intruder turns to run away........YOU CANNOT SHOOT THEM IN THE BACK. This is a sure sign that you're life was not in that much danger. No one will get in trouble, because the gun is registered. What I would consider, though is to take a fire arms safety course, so if something like that does happen, you can show that you have the ability for sound judgement on how to harbor a weapon.

if he's in your house and you shoot him no one will get in trouble if you kill him. if not he's gonna sue you. so if your gonna shoot someone make it count

thats touchy, it depends entirely on if the suspect is hostile, if they're running away and you shoot them in the back thats murder 1. however if they present a threat you can shoot them no problem, your best bet is to either let them leave if they run and call the cops or shoot them in the chest, get a knife out of your kitchen and put it in their hand claiming that they threatened you with it.

There is a lot to abide when legaly shooting someone case you know you can shoot some one like a relation of yours in your home for getting a larger part of your grand mothers will and say it's a shot intruder right? even if you disagress it's why you have to prove that whome you shot is a pure grade intruder and you or anyone one else other than the intruder or intruders are in danger of death or injery like a cut off leg to disfigures face and then if the intruder is alive and even if he/she thinks to be more of a @#!*!#* load of scum he will out of a 30% probebility will go to court against you with scam like he was the real person in danger of death or injery but you know try to talk your way out of things for the most part and when fear reaches its climax remember to shoot back insted of running and one more thing it's only a human not anything else is suposed to be in danger of a intruder to shoot a intruder. In the case your boyfriend owns that gun he's and not responsible to the shooting to death he's out of danger as long as he did not kill and of course you are not in trouble if are not REGISTERED TO USE A GUN (ANY NON CONVENTIONAL WEAPON LIKE GUNS AND BOMBS) but if you have registered to use things with the police for posible danger of death or injery you are in safe heaven. You know keep this in mind use non leathal weapons mostly and use ammunition that wont do much of a harm like death but most of all it's depending on whare you are living to how much trouble you are in but like for people in florida and some others its ok to shoot anyone in or outside your property to the protection of your self or anyone else mainly police officers. You need to check out your state's laws on self defense. I'm not sure if it would make any difference in who's name the gun is registered. As long as it was registered I see no problem. Check Findlaw for more details. In Oregon you have the right to use reasonable force to repel an attack that would cause serious bodily damage. One of the responders pointed out that the mere fact that someone is in your house indicates he is up to no good. If a man with a knife is within 40 feet of you, he can kill you before you can draw a gun and shoot. If I felt my life was in danger, I'd shoot to kill. But you have to remember it might be the neighbor's kid coming home drunk and getting the wrong house. Do you really want to kill a 13 yr old? Once I was reasonably sure the intruder was a criminal, I'd kill him. When the cops come, say nothing, ask for a lawyer. Better to secure your house against break in rather than have to shoot someone.

Many issues, is it legal in your state for you to have the gun ( does it have to be registered or licenced)

Next if someone broke into your home, ( depending on the state) did you have an opportunity to run and escape, if you did you are not suppose to shoot them but merley escape.

If you live in a state that allows you to shoot without having to escape, was your life in danger, were you threatened, if no, no you still can't shoot, you have to stand there and watch them carry your stuff off ( yes honestly) and call the polcie.

Don't worry about the gun. Think of your own life. If anyone forces his way into your house, you have to assume that he's in to rob or rape. In either case he won't want to be identified. Creeps have a way of making sure they can't be identified. Don't be a victim. If he forced his way in, and you have a good bead on him shoot. If you hesitate, he can grab the gun out of your hand.

As long as the gun is registered and the owner gave you permission to have it there shouldn't be any problems with shooting an intruder. Aim low though, you don't want to kill the SOB, just nail him in the kneecap or balls.

If you feel you life in danger than you have the legal right to protect yourself and shoot the intruder. But just remeber that you are legally responisble for where ever that bullet goes. If you miss and kill somone else you could be convicted of murder. If you do shoot and kill the intruder you will go to court either way. In a criminal court you would probobly get off the hook if you could prove your life was in danger. But the intruders family could still sue you personally for wrongful death even though your life was in danger. And you will have a much harder time in civil court than in criminal court. I have a personal firearm in my house to protect me in case the worst happens. If your life is in danger shoot first then ask questions later.

If your boyfriend is legally in possesion of the gun then he should have no problems.

If you legally shoot an intruder then it doesn't matter who owns the gun.

If the intruder is dead no-one should get in trouble - it's self defense. If the intruder is still alive the possible class action suite the shooter (you) will be held responsible. The person the gun is registered to is moot as long as all of that stuff is on the up and up.

If the intruder is in your home at the time you shoot him/her and if they are causing a threat to you ONLY if they pose a threat to you may you shoot them out of self defense the you must have proof that the intruder was in your home at the time you shot him/her. So make sure that when you shot the intruder they are fully inside your home. if it be out of self defense neither you nor your boyfriend will get into trouble if it not be out of self defense you will because you are the one that shot the person your finger prints are going to be on the gun not his...However if you're a minor then he will get charged too and for supplying it.
